2.0.0 Introduction to Bible Prophecy

Introduction to Prophecy

Matthew 1:22—Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet saying,

The Meaning of Prophecy

Prophecy is two-fold.

Prophecy can be both "Predictive" and "Prescriptive" The prophets were both "fore-tellers" and "forth-tellers". They had both "foresight" and "insight".

Fore-telling

Prophecy is history written in advance. Only God knows the future and because of his infinite knowledge History is "His Story". To God, the future is no more a mystery than the past is to Him!

For example, Isaiah 45:1 declares the facts of the fall of Babylon almost 150 years BEFORE it happened. Especially phenomenal is the fact that Cyrus is mentioned by name many years before he was even born!

Isaiah 45:1—Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

Forth-telling

Most Bible prophecy is giving a remedy to the people by reminding them of truth and what God has already said. The Bible prophets were faithful to relate the Word of God to the people and their circumstances. They described and prescribed the way of escape or deliverance out of calamity and into the favor of God.

For example, 2 Chronicles 7:14 gives the remedy for healing and forgiveness. The instruction given carries in it the sense of a PROMISE and this promise is from God. From out of the mouth of God's prophets came forth God's guarantees.

2 Chronicles 7:14—If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Prophecy is a Divine utterance.

Prophecy is not reasoned discourse or inspired preaching, but is the utterance of the Spirit.

2 Peter 1:21—For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The Greek word (prophetes) for "prophecy" is made of two Greek words: "pro" meaning before, or in place of and "phemi" meaning to speak. A true prophet speaks on the behalf of the only One who knows the future—God.

The Study of Prophecy

Reasons we study prophecy:

The Bible is prophetic.

Two-thirds of Scripture is prophetic either in type or direct statement. Unlike any other religious book, the Bible successfully establishes its "authenticity, authority and inspiration" with prophecy.

That we be not ignorant of God's plan.

If we do not know what is going to happen, we will not make preparation. (Read II Peter 3:3-8.)

2 Peter 3:4—And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

That we can understand the present and how it relates to the future.

We can understand how our present time relates to prophetic truth only if we are aware of the "signs of the times". The Bible is filled with signs of the times. These signs are markers or tells that identify where in the prophetic time-line we are.

Read the following Scriptures: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6; 2 Timothy 3:13; 2 Thessalonians 2:3; Daniel 12:4-10; 2 Peter 1:19.

That we be not led into error.

It is possible for believers to be led astray. To remain ignorant of God's prophetic instruction is a fatal mistake.

Hosea 4:6—My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Read the following Scriptures: Matthew 24:24; Revelation 3:18-22; 2 Tim. 3:13.

The Proof of Prophecy -

It must be beyond all human attempts or foresight.

Beyond one's knowledge of a situation.

It must have been made known prior to its fulfillment.

It must have a clear and detailed fulfillment.

Even though there are many impersonators, there are still some true prophets. God has given and continues to give them to His Church.

Ephesians 4:11—And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

The Object of Prophecy -

There are classes of Prophecy - I Cor. 10:32

1. Jews -

Ham father of Canaan from who sprang the Canaanites.

Eventually both Egypt and Canaan succumbed to the descendants of Japheth (the Greeks and Romans)

(The Gentiles)

Shem from whom comes the Jews.

Japheth means extended or enlarged - "Let God enlarge Japheth and let him dwell in the tents of Shem and Canaan be his servant."

Thru Shem Japheth is to receive and share the promised blessing.

John 4:22 Eph. 2:12

2.1.0 The Future

The Future

Human Attempts to Know the Future

Attempts to know the future are found in all peoples. It is a natural desire in the heart of man to know the future. Astrology attempts to interpret the motion of heavenly bodies as signs of the future and astrologers are sometimes called stargazers. Astrology should not be confused with Astronomy which is based on scientific facts. (The Lord, Himself, will give a sign… Isa. 7:14)

Divination

Witchcraft

Sorcerers

Enchanters

Necromancers

Spiritism

Origin of This Desire

Natural or native feeling that there is a future.

We are more than creatures of time.

Man is an endless being.

Man has a soul the very breath of the Almighty and that part can never die.

"God has set the world in their heart" Eccl. 3:11 "owlam"

Eternity in our hearts i.e. consciousness of eternal being.

The Future Is God's Secret

In the Bible it is forbidden to practice man-made attempts to pry into the future. (Ex. 22:18 Lev. 19:31 Lev. 20:6 20:27 Deut. 18:1011) In the N.T. witchcraft is classified with murder fornication idolatry etc. (Gal. 5:20; Rev. 21:8)

God alone knows the end from the beginning.

God reveals the future to any He pleases.

Joseph — Gen. 41:1-32

Daniel — Dan. 2:20

Can Man Know The Future?

Yes, through the Bible but never apart from it.

Yes, through the Holy Spirit - dreams visions revelation.

Is Prophecy Confined To Certain Books In The Bible?

Prophecy is not confined to certain Bible books classified as prophetic.

Gen. 3:15 — First prophecy

2.2.0 The Jews and Bible Prophecy

The Jews and Prophecy

I.Call of Abram - Gen. 12:1 Joshua 24:2 Acts 7:2

Revelations is a progressive way that is not everything was revealed at one time.

Promises given to Abram were unconditional. Gen. 12:34

History answers to the fulfillment of the promise.

·Promises were expanded in Gen. 12:7 "unto thy seed will I give this land."

·Promises were Enlarged in Gen. 13:14-18

·Promises were Completed in Gen. 15:18

Genesis 15:12-14 gives 6 future facts:

1. His seed to be strangers in a strange land.

2. That they were to serve.

3. Affliction for 400 years.

4. The oppressive nation God will judge.

5. They were to come out of the land with great substance.

6. Abram's seed would return to their own land in the fourth generation. All fulfilled.

VI.Jacob's prophecy - Gen. 49

Background - vs 1 Jacob speaks as a prophet.

1. Simeon Reuben Levi -Evil defilement treachery vs. 3-7 Israel as a nation before Christ. Israel as seen in the Old Testament.

Literally fulfilled. Deut. 31:1617

Lev. 26-Dispersion - judgment upon the nations

Lev. 26:33-Became a byword - Deut. 28:37

Note verses 54-57 - all fulfilled in 70 AD.

Note verse 68 Josephus says that after 70 AD many went to Egypt to work in the mines. They became slaves - so many he says "No man shall buy you." World-wide dispersion - vs. 64-67

Jonah in the belly of the fish but not digested -type of Israel in all nations of the world but not absorbed by them. Lev. 26:44 Jer. 22:7-9.

Fulfillment of these Scriptures since Israel rejected their Messiah. Luke 23:28-31 Luke 21:24

Fires of persecution have burned fiercely in almost every century. Middle Ages - "Black Death" over 25 million perished.Spain France England Germany Russia etc.

Jews are the miracle of history. They never pass away.Moses at burning bush - it was not consumed. Type of Israel - amid fires of persecution yet are never annihilated. The Jews are the greatest witnesses that the Bible is the supernatural revelation of God.

IX.The Great Tribulation -

Still future-before the promised blessings the Jews will pass through horrible times.

·Moses predicted the day of "Their calamity". Deut. 32:35-42

·Foretold by Jeremiah - 30:4-7 Day of Jacob's trouble

·Daniel also - 12:1 "time of trouble"

·Foretold by Jesus also - Matt. 24:21 "the great tribulation" is yet to come.

·It will affect all nations. It will be world-wide.

Why does God allow it? On account of their apostasy.

God has promised Palestine to the Jews. Palestine is the Land of Promise They are to be brought back and restored. Whole-hearted return to the Lord - Joel 2:23 Zionism is a nationally attempted restoration of Israel. It is a restoration in unbelief. God has something better. The temple and its worship restored.

The Two Classes —.Rom. 9:6 Rom. 3:2829

Seed of Abraham has always been divided into 2 classes:

·Isaac —Promise

·Ishmael—Flesh

In the O.T. the Israelites who turned away from Jehovah and worshipped idols God judged.

A remnant always believed (faith and hope). Ezekiel 9:4Godly remnant Mal. 3. Hope of the orthodox believing Jews has never died. During the tribulation this godly remnant will accept the Christ and suffer for Him.

Jew's prediction - Matt. 24:14 The abomination of desolation in Israel's land during the Tribulation.

They bear witness to Christ and His soon coming to judge."All Israel shall be saved" does not include the idolatrous God-blaspheming part of the nation."

Ezek. 20:30; 13:89; 12:9-13:1

X. Israel's Future Restoration -

The curses and threatenings the dispersion and the sufferings mean literal Israel and have been literally fulfilled. The predictions of the future blessing and glory have not been transferred to the church but will be fulfilled in Israel. Read Deut. 30:1-9.

Outstanding facts in the above passage:

1. The future dispersion is assumed. Not the Babylonian captivity of 70 years nor the captivity of the 10 tribes. The dispersion of Matt. 21:24

2. If they return unto the Lord and obey He will have compassion upon them.

3. He will return.

4. They will be re-gathered.

5. They will be restored to their land and possess it.

6. National rebirth.

7. He will deal with their enemies.

8. The Lord will abundantly bless them.

These 8 facts are the basic facts of Israel's future.

Blessing and glory.

Key to all is His return.

Hosea 5:15 ß All this refers to His Second Coming.

Acts 3:19-21

Note - "the restitution of all things"

"all the prophets have spoken"

Acts 15:14-18

Note the new fact - The Gentile world is to receive the Gospel witness before Israel's hope can be realized.

Calling of the church - when completed He will return.

Isa. 10:20-24; 11:1-4

XI.Results of His Coming -

1.Change in the animal world.

2.Earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord.

3.The Son of David will stand for an ensign.

4.The Gentiles shall seek Him.

5.His rest will be glorious.

6. Israel will be re-gathered and restored.

3.1.0 Daniel 1: Message & Development of Daniel

I. Daniel's Message

context: Dan. 1:1-3; 2:46-49; 5:1112; 5:29-6:3; 8:27-9:4

credit: E. G. Carle

A. The Truth of Daniel's Message

CLAIM: A 3rd Century Syrian named Porphyry assert the book of Daniel was not written by Daniel (circa 533 B.C.), but that it was a forgery written in the time of the Maccabees about 168 B.C. This would place the writing of the book well after the life of Autiochus Epiphanes. The premise of his claim was that it was "too accurate" to have been written before the events it foretold.

REBUTTAL:

Matthew 24:15 — When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Matthew 21:44 — And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Daniel 2:34,35 ‐ Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

Josephus, the historian, wrote that when Alexander the Great came to Jerusalem 332 B.C. Juddua the High Priest read to him Daniel 8:5-8 in that God had foretold through his prophet Daniel this would happen.

Daniel 1:3 — And the king spake unto Ashpenaz (Rabsaris) the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

B. The Theme of Daniel's Message

What is it all about? The Universal Sovereignty of God "God is still on the throne."2:28; 4:25 Notice 1:2; 2:37; 5:18

C. The Time of Daniel's Message

At the beginning of Babylonian conquest. This is how the book opens. "In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim King of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonunto Jerusalem and besieged it." Dan. 1:1

Jeremiah 25:1 places this captivity in the fourth year of Jehoiakim Daniel in the third. Is this an error? Is the Bible wrong? The Jews counted every bit of a year as one year. Jeremiah is writing to the Jews. Daniel is writing more for the Gentiles. (9th month of the next year.) Also - The Babylonian conquest was in three stages. The servitude - the captivity - the destruction.

This is at the servitude stage - (3 years 9 months) Nebuchadnezzar demanded submission - Judah lost their independence -Nebuchadnezzar returned to Babylon wit choicest treasures.Daniel was taken - at about sixteen years old.

The history of Daniel covers about seventy five years.

D. The Aim of It -What does it set out to do? (They are in captivity.)

(1) To encourage the people of God to the sovereignty of God

to see the purpose of God and to put their faith in God.

(2) To give them prophetic truth -

Speaks much of the future end-time Second coming.

(3) It is a missionary account -

To give a missionary vision.

E. The Form of It - What form does this book take?

Divided into two equal parts -

First six chapters history -

Second six chapters prophecy -

Ch. 1-6 Daniel revealing God's secrets to kings

Ch. 7-12 Angels revealing God's secrets to Daniel

What is history and what is prophecy? What is the difference between them? History is the record of events - present and past. Prophecy is history written in advance.

How did these men write prophetically? II Peter 1:21

F. Why is the Book of Daniel different from the other prophetic books?

God is not speaking to His own people. You don't find "Thus saith the Lord." You don't find "My people" Isaiah - Hosea (Lo-Ammi - not my People.) In the closing chapters God says repeatedly "Thy people""Jehovah" hardly ever occurs in Daniel -Only in Ch. 9 - Daniel is grieving for his own people."Jehovah" is the covenant name for God. Not appropriate for Gentile world powers. The most usual name for God is "Adonai-Elohim" The Sovereign Lord God.

G. Part of this book is written Hebrew, Aramaic

H. The name of it

(1) The book is like a diary of Daniel. The name Daniel means "God is my judge, or judge of God."

Daniel 7:15 — I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

"I Daniel" - __No definite proof who wrote it__?. 7:15;8:1527;10:2,7

·Isa. 1:1 was Written by Isaiah

·Jer. 1:1 was Written by Jeremiah

·Eze. 1:3 was Written by Ezekiel

(2) Believed to be written by Daniel when in Captivity

606 BC carried into the land of Babylon between 16-20 years old. Daniel was a great man. Became a great statesman of Babylon. Considered as Prime Minister.

(3) It is all about Daniel

How did Daniel get promoted so quickly? "Daniel purposed in his heart" 1:8

(a) Not to defile himself

(b) Not to disobey God

(c) Not to disappoint his people

God exalted him because of his obedience. Daniel is referred to as the revelation of Jesus Christ in the O.T.

II. Daniel's Development

context: Daniel 1:1-21

credit: E. G. Carle

CHARACTER: the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual:

A. The Background -

(1) His birth - Vs. 3

"Of the kings seed"

Daniel and his fellows were of the tribe of Judah, the royal tribe and most likely of the house of David.

(2) His upbringing - Vs. 4

Daniel 1:4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

Moffatt "Intelligent in all branches of knowledge adept in learning accomplished scholars."

(3) Enduring hardship - Vs. 12

His kidnapping along with his peers was prophesied of by Isaiah.

Isaiah 39:7 — And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

(4) Education in Babylon - Vs. 4 (last part)

... and whom they might teach ...

Daniel 1:9 — Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

(5) Names and changes of names - Vs. 7

Hebrew Name Hebrew Definition Babylonian Name Babylonian Definition
Daniel God is my judge Belteshazzar the keeper of the hidden treasures of Bel
Hananiah Jehovah is gracious Shadrach Command of Aku (Moon god); the inspiration of the sun
Mishael He that is the strong God Meshach of the godess shach (venus)
Azariah Jehovah is my helper Abednego Servant of Nego - "the shining fire"

The changing of their Hebrew names was an attempt to destroy their faith in Jehovah and teach them in the gods of Babylon. By changing their names, the Eunuch also demonstrated his authority over them.

(6) Uncommon Faith

Daniel can also be compared with Joseph. Joseph served in Egypt as second in command only to Pharoah.

The weightiness of Daniel's life and ministry can also be understood in comparing his ministry in the courts of the kings of the world with that of Moses' in Pharoah's court.

The Siege - Vs. 12

The Captivity - Vs. 34

3.2.0 Daniel 2: An Image & A Stone

TEXT: Daniel 2:1-30

Introduction

A. LANGUAGES OF DANIEL

1. The Passages where originally Written in Either Hebrew or Aramaic

The book of Daniel was written originally in both Hebrew (1:1–2:3; 7:1–12:13) and Aramaic (2:4–7:28) with a scattering of 'Old' Persian (15 total; 6 are archaic by 330 BC) and Greek (3; musical instruments, transliterated) words. In OT times, Aramaic was the language used by several people groups in the Middle East.

2 Kings 18:26 — Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian [Aramiyth] language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall. [After the captivity of Israel and at the attempt to delay the captivity of Judah to Assyria by Hezekiah. Isaiah prophesied "Rabshekah will hear rumor and leave.]

2. Comparison of Hebrew and Aramaic

Both languages have had a significant impact on the development of the other, and there are many instances where they overlap.

3. Aramaic is also used here and there throughout the New Testament.

The New Testament was written primarily in Greek with only a few Aramaic words or phrases scattered here and there.

B. There are three divisions to this chapter:

We will then conclude this chapter with some application.

I. Nebuchadnezzar — vs. 1-13

A. The King's Distress — vs. 1

When and Why the king was distressed.

1. The Time of the King's Distress

"And in the second year of…Nebuchadnezzar…"

This is only the 2ndyear of Nebuchadnezzar's independent reign for he was king two years before his father's death.

2. He was troubled over his dreams and the future vs. 1

Daniel 2:29 — As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.

Daniel 2:45 — Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

B. The King's Desire — vs. 2-4

  1. He called the wisemen. -- vs. 2
  2. The king told them his desire -- vs. 3 "To know the dream" and interpretation.

C. The King's Dilemma — vs. 5

  1. He couldn't remember the dream "the thing is gone from me" vs. 5a
  2. The wise men could not give an answer.

D. The King's Demand — vs. 5b-7

  1. To know the Dream
  2. To the Interpretation

E. The King's Disappointment — vs. 8-11

  1. The king was aware of their tricks — vs. 8 (they were frauds)
  2. He was disappointed in them.
  3. He was disappointed in their answer. — vs. 9 (lying and corrupt words)

F. The King's Decree — vs. 12-13

  1. It was angry. — vs. 12
  2. It was complete. — vs. 12b "All wise men"
  3. It was immediate. — vs. 13

II. Daniel — vs. 13-23

A. Daniel's Predicament — vs. 13 (They sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.)

Will history repeat itself? Will the politicians and the wise of this world have to call the men of God?

Daniel's situation is very severe. Satan could be in this. The storms of Galilee. Ungodly men are tools in the devil's hand.

II Thessalonians 3:12 Paul speaks of 'man's extremity is God's opportunity.' Remember Peter in prison. — Acts 12

B. Daniel's Poise — vs. 14-15 (Not panic but poise.)

Daniel was in imminent danger. Without doubt others panicked but not Daniel. "Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom" [ASRV: prudence & discretion.]

Arioch was the captain or "chief of the executioners (slaughtermen)" "Why is the decree so hasty form the king?" Arioch answered and made it known.

C. Daniel's Positivity — vs. 16 (Goes boldly to the king)

"Then Daniel went in and desired of the king that he would give him time." What optimism! Nebuchadnezzar in health and sleeping well was ferocious but with nightmares not sleeping well on edge touchy whom the wise men had already engaged. And Daniel goes in. That is positivity; that is faith.

Also his positivity is seen—"And that he would shew the king the interpretation." Faith that anticipates the answer is really faith. The faith of Abraham Elijah etc.

D. Daniel's Policy — vs. 17-18 (What is Daniel going to do?)

What would religious leaders do today? Daniel and his friends went to prayer. What were the others doing while these were praying? Daniel's policy was prayer.

"The effectual fervent prayer" (James 5) "of a righteous man availeth much."

Also there are four of them — "Two agree" Matthew 18:19

E. Daniel's Prize — vs. 19 "the secret [was] revealed unto Daniel in a night vision."

Deliverance resembled the form of the distress. Distress came by a dream; deliverance came by a vision. A tree was the occasion of soul disease; a tree is the means of universal healing. People bitten by a serpent are poisoned; we are cured by looking to a 'serpent.' Sin brought death; death brought life.

Lot could not help Sodom because he was mixed in with them. Daniel was separated.

The revelation is given twice. First by dream and second by vision. Let everything be established by two or three. Matthew 18:16

F. Daniel's Praise — vs. 19-20 "Then Daniel blessed the God of Heaven."

Obtainment should be followed by acknowledgment. The one Samaritan out of ten lepers (Luke 17:15). Make us like Daniel.

III.The Understanding of the Dream — vs. 24-49

The King and Daniel together — vs. 24-47

The wisdom of the world comes to naught.

The humility of Daniel — vs. 30

"But as for me"

Look at the Dream in three ways—Detail Design Destiny.

A. What the dream was in detail — vs.31-35

There were two main features of it —  1) An Image and 2) A Stone.

1. An Image — vs. 31-33

As to the image it was a man characteristic Babylonian figure. The figure is in five distinct parts: head breast and arms belly and thighs legs and finally the feet.

In vs. 31-33 the five parts are clearly defined with each part being a different type of substance.

a.The Head                   -Gold
b. The Breast and Arms            -Silver
c.The Belly and Thighs     -Brass (maybe copper)
d. The Legs                   -Iron
e.The Feet                    -Part Iron Part Clay

The costliest and the heaviest substances are on top. A decrease in price and preciousness all the way down. There is deterioration from gold to silver etc. A decrease in value and weight: Gold 19.3; Silver 10.5; Brass 8.5; Iron 7.6; Clay 1.9

The last brittle top heavy on an insecure foundation.

Look at it from another point. There is an increase in strength and in hardness of metals. Gold is soft silver and brass are not so soft and iron is very hard and breaks and crushes.

2.A Stone — vs. 34-35

The second thing was the stone. The image was suddenly and completely destroyed by the stone.

The stone is cut out without hands. This was an act of God alone. It comes from heaven.

It smites the image on the feet.

The image disintegrates. Vs. 35 (The costly gold and the strong iron.)

The stone then becomes a great mount and fills the whole earth.

B. What the Dream was in Design — What is it all about?

1. Given by God to Nebuchadnezzar. Vs. 28

2.It is concerning what shall be in the latter days. "In the end days" Nebuchadnezzar was worrying about the future. Vs. 29

3.It is all about kingdoms. Vs. 39-42 It is a vision of rule and government on a world wide scale.

4.The most important kingdom is the fifth. This is the one that the stone falls on.

5.The last thing to notice is the last kingdom God's kingdom (vs. 44) that never shall be destroyed.

C. What the dream was in Destiny

Daniel says to Nebuchadnezzar "And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee." vs. 39

1. The procession of the empires: Babylon àMedo-Persia àGreece àRome.

2.Decrease in value—a change in government rule.

a.Gold à Autocratic(ruler-ship by one) 5:19
b. Silver à Oligarchic (Government of the few) 6:1
c.Brass à Aristocratic(Government by the nobility)
Militarily noble that is chief men of war and not of blood or birth.
d. Iron à Imperialistic (Militant and ruthless like Germany under Hitler.)

The two legs of the image: the Roman empire was split in two in 364 AD. This created the Eastern Empire with its capital at Constantinople and the Western Empire with its capital at Rome.

There has never been another world empire since the Roman empire and that is why all our civilization is based on Roman laws.

Yet the Anti-christ is not going to be a Roman Emperor.

e.Iron and Clay à Imperialistic & Democratic (Government by the people)
f.The Stone à Theocratic (Ruler-ship by God)

IV. Some Application

1. FROM "I. Nebuchadnezzar"

I. A. The King's Distress

FALSE IMAGES. The Images of ancient kings and conquering generals: Tall, Straight, Proud, Confident, So "sure"

I. E. The King's Disappointment

Daniel 2:9 — But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.

FRAUDS: Not what they say they are. They do not speak for God, they just make stuff up. The tricks they usually used failed them here. To whom does the sinner look for DEFINITION and REVELATION? "We do not need God." "The trickery of feelind and or sounding 'good'".

song description Scriptures
ROCK & ROLL, Bob Dylan, “Like a Rolling Stone” repeated in the first 2 lines "How does it feel, How does it feel" -- hail the dropout life 1 John 2:16; 2 Peter 2:10 (a rebel for rebellion's sake)
Sounds about Love ("Love Stinks") Unfaithful women/men; They write about something have little to no experience with in many cases (look at their track record); You love her, But she loves him, And he loves somebody else, You just can't win, And **so it goes, Till the day you die**, This thing they call love It's gonna make you cry ... One thing for sure Proverbs 25:14 [makes promises but never delivers]; 2 Peter 2:17

1. FROM "II. Daniel"

Daniel's Predicament

3.3.0 Daniel 3: Unbending & Unburned

Chapter 3: Unbending and Unburned

Daniel 3:1-30

INTRODUCTION

We will deal with this third chapter in three ways:

I.A History of the Past        — As history in Nebuchadnezzar's day.

II.A Parable of the Present         — As a parable in our day.

III.A Prophecy of the Future       — As prophecy in the time of the Anti-Christ

I.A History of the Past

Divided into four parts:

Vs. 1-7 The First Decree of the King-

Vs. 8-18 The Defiance of  the Three -

Vs. 19-27 The Deliverance of the Three -

Vs. 28-30 The Second Decree of the King-

A. The First Decree of the King vs. 1-7

"Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold." Why did he do this?

1. The Image he saw - himself -

Strange shape 90 - 100 ft. high 9 - 10 ft. wide. 20 to 23 years elapsed between chapter two and three.

The strange thing about the chapter  is there is no mention of Daniel. Daniel is away - on kings business- etc. The image may not have been made had Daniel been there. Daniel exercised a restraint upon the King as Christians should on the world and do. (II Thessalonians 2:7)

2.The downfall of his kingdom had been fore told - vs. 39 of chapter 2.

a.Do you suppose he feared this and tried to strengthen his kingdom?
b.Or was he lifted up in pride because his kingdom seemed so secure?
c.Do you think he thought he was especially favored with God and so this magnified his place? Nebuchadnezzar had come to admire God and the wisdom given to Daniel but he was not brought to repentance. Is this true of today? Many who admire God and the Gospel and the Church never put trust in Christ as Savior .

In this image is set forth the power and the glory of man.

The image bears the number of man- 60 by 6 cubits - The number of man. Six instruments of music vs. 5

Whenever you see man exalting himself in his pride - it is always "sixes."

The Anti-Christ Rev. 13:18; Goliath - I Sam. 17:4-7 - II Sam. 21:20

The Image was made of Gold- Some believe wood overlaid with gold. Outwardly imperishable inwardly inferior.

In the Plain of Dura ßAll by itself .

The Day of dedication - Those that attended -When the band played everyone was to worship.

3.The Defiance of the Decree. Vs. 8-18

This is a great story. It would be three out of about 300000. Can we stand alone? Why didn't these bow down? The second commandment - Ex 20:4-5. If they bowed down they would be deliberately disobeying the command of their God. The Christian is to obey the law of the land until they have to do something contrary to the Word of God.

The king gives them another chance. They might have misunderstood the command so suggests the king. Vs. 14. "Is it of set purpose or is it a mistake on your part? Vs. 16. "Not necessary to give you an answer."

Vs. 17a The Principal of Faith - Knowledge

Vs. 17b The Persistence of Faith - Courage

Vs. 18 The Pledge of Faith - Dedication

Job said "Though He slay me yet I will trust Him."

The King loses his temper. The old saying is - "When a man gets full of fury he gets full of folly." The furnace heated 7x's hotter. The king lost some of his best men.

4.The Deliverance over the Decree. Vs. 19-27

(1) Their Faith - Revealed- they defied the decree.

(2) Their Faith Tried - They all fell down bound in the furnace.

What was it that brought deliverance? -It wasn't the fire. - It wasn't themselves.- It wasn't any human being. àIt was Jesus!

(3) Their Faith Honored -

"Then Shadrach Meshach and Abednego came forth of the mist of the fire." vs. 26 "Upon whose bodies the fire had no power." vs.27

B. The Second Decree of the King. Vs. 28-30

1.The King's Confession v. 28

a.Recognition of God -

"Blessed be the God…who hath sent His angel and delivered His servants."

b. Recognition of Faith.

"That trusted in Him"

c.Recognition of real Religion

"Yielded their bodies" Not just their heart mind or Their Spirit. Rom. 12:1

2.The King's Command - vs. 29

a.Concerns all people.
b. Concerns speech.
c.Concerns severe punishment.

3.The King's Conduct - vs. 30

a.There is no repentance-
b. He admires God.
c.He promotes the Three.

II. A Parable of the Present

What does this teach?

A. The doctrine of the totalitarian state. Vs.4 "The State is all"

1. Its needs are paramount

2.It's demands imperative

3.It's commands absolute (The individual is part of the state.)

B. The state is to be worshiped.

They must bring religion into it. Man is a religious being - incorporate religion into the state - make it subordinate.

They command worship -"to you it is commanded."

1. Found true in Germany -

Taken from "The Times" of 29th July 1936." "One cannot be a good German and at the same time deny God but an avowal of faith in the eternal Germany is at the same time an avowal of faith in the eternal God. If we act as true Germans we act according to the laws of God. Whosoever serves Adolf Hitler the Fuhrer serves Germany and whosoever serves Germany serves God."

2.Also true of Communism -

Communism at the beginning set out to smash God. They would stamp out religion altogether. But they learned by their mistakesand now instead of trying to destroy they are trying to use it. Makeit subservient to the State. Communists allow religion but keep it under their control.

3.The Roman Catholic Church

Simply totalitarian tyranny. ARE WE REALLY FREE?

III.Prophecy of the Future

A. The prophecy concerns the Anti-Christ -Rev. 13

B. Mussolini started to make an image but he was hung by the heels and shot.

C. Anti-christ —Abomination

Dan. 3:28; Rom. 12.

1.His nature -Peaceful beastly

2.His image -Speak and kill

3.His mark- Mark name number

3.5.0 Daniel 5: The Handwriting on the Wall

The Handwriting on the Wall

Daniel 5:1-31

The Outline:

I. Historical Review

II. Hysterical Revelry

III. Humiliating Revelation

I. The Historical Review -

A. The critics say there was none by the name Darius - Darias is a title.

Darius I was King of Persia from 521 to 486? B.C.

B. They say also that Belshazzar was not the son of Nebuchadnezzar.

There is no word for "grandfather" in Hebrew or Chaldaic..

About 20 to 30 years have passed between chapters 4 and 5. Nebuchadnezzar was followed by evil Merodach.

He was assassinated by his brother-in- law- Neriglissar. He reigned for 4 years and was killed in battle.

Labashi-marduk (Laborosoarchod) who was Neriglissar's son was clubbed to death after reigning for only a few months.

Nabonidus reigned less than a year and was taken in battle. His son was Belshazzar. Belshazzar is ruler- second ruler or in command. Jer. 27:6-7.

C. About the city -

Most magnificent and luxurious. Built in a square -15 miles each way.

The wall surrounding the city - 87 feet thick 350 feet high. Six chariots could ride abreast.

Gates of brass -watch towers. 100 gates of bronze or brass 25 on a side.

The city now surrounded by the Medes and Persians.

II. The Hysterical Revelry. vs. 1-7

1. The Feast vs. 1-4

Drank with the women -

Drank with the vessels from the house of God -

Using the vessels of the Lord to entertain their lusts.

3. The Fear - vs. 6-7

Most people know when they are wrong.

The knees smote together -

The king cried aloud -"shrieked"

III. The Humiliating Revelation vs.8-31

1. The Wise Men Humiliated - vs.8-9

Could not give an answer. One thing in their favour they did not try to interpret what they did not understand. They still call the wise man of our day to read and interpret God's Word.

2. All Babylon Humiliated -

Daniel the Hebrew alone -vs. 10-29 He had the answer

3. The King Humiliated - (In Defeat) vs.30-31

"In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain."

Lev 21:12 Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD. Lev 22:32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you,-- Jer 23:11 For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD. -- the profanity doesn't end with the laity. Eze 22:8 Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths. Is their a difference? Eze 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Holy holy holy Lord God almighty. Early in the morning my song shall ride to thee!!!….

3.6.0 Daniel 6: Den of Lions

Chapter 6: Den of Lions

A Change in Government (vs. 1-3)

credit: Elaine Walch

A New King

As prophesied in Nebuchadnezzar's dream in Chapter 2, chapter 5 concluded with the fall of Babylon (head of gold) to Medo-Persia (breast and arms of silver). Medo-Persia was led by Darius the Mede who was 62 years old.

A New Form of Government

The "head of gold" is gone and the "breast and arms of silver" take over. Nebuchadnezzar ruled as an absolute monarch, but Darius' regime is different. Darius delegates authority to 120 princes over the kingdom. Over those 120 princes were three presidents. The purpose of this structure was to give accountability and ensure the good success of the kingdom.

vs. 2…the king should have no damage.

First among the three presidents was Daniel. The reason for Daniel's preferment by the king was his "excellent spirit". Daniel served God in excellence and the Darius noticed there was something pre-eminently different about Daniel. Daniel was honored by Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar and now Darius for the spirit he bore which was the fruit of a sanctified life. (Compare Daniel 1:8 and 2 Corinthians 6:17.)

Daniel 6:3—Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Conspiracy in the King's Cabinet (vs.4-9)

Because of jealousy, the King's Cabinet was up in arms against Daniel. A conspiracy among the presidents and princes developed to remove Daniel.

Daniel 6:4—Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel…

They searched hard to find some error, mental deficiency, or moral fault in Daniel, but could find none. In verse 5, the presidents and princes then conspired against Daniel by attacking his worship of God. A decree was made whose purpose was to trap and remove Daniel.

Daniel 6:7—…whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

Reactions to the Decree (vs. 10-20)

In Daniel (vs. 10)

No change in Daniel. He opened his windows - kneeled three times a day and prayed. A capital crime. Why did he open his windows toward Jerusalem: I Kings 8:46.

In The Princes (Vs. 11-13)

The princes and presidents tattled on Daniel to the king.

In Darius (vs. 14-20)

"Sore displeased with himself" "Laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him. " The king must still command that Daniel be cast into the den. The king spent a long and sleepless night of fasting for Daniel.

The Den of Lions (vs. 21-23)

Sent into a Den

The Believer is sent into a dangerous and mostly godless world. The environment would appear too difficult for Christian faith to flourish and yet Daniel teaches us that even in a "Den of Lions" faith can excel!

Matthew 10:16—Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

No hurt came to Daniel because God sent His angel ("El -aw" strength: mighty Almighty) to shut the Lions' mouths.

Daniel Delivered Out a Den (vs.23)

The Reaction of the King

Exceeding glad -"Saggiy" From a root means "Laud Praise". The king Commanded that Daniel be taken out.

The Reaction of Daniel

There was no change in Daniel. Physically, Spiritually and Mentally Daniel suffered "No manner of hurt ". The trial did not effect him because "he believed in his God "

Righteousness Exalted (vs. 24-28)

The Counteraction Against The Cabinet (vs. 24)

All the men who accused Daniel with their children and wives were cast into the den of lions. The lions had the mastery over them so that they brake all their bones in pieces before they came to the bottom of the den. This ferocity indicates that these were not old lazy lions, and Daniel's safety was not a coincidence.

A New Decree (vs. 25-28)

Darius made a new decree. In it he commanded that the God of Daniel was to be feared and men everywhere were to tremble before Him.

The Honour of God

Darius described God as "Stedfast". He is supreme, immutable and omnipotent.

The Prosperity of Daniel

Daniel 6:28—So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

"Prospered" means to advance, break out or be profitable. Daniel prospered materially, socially and spiritually.

3.7.0 Daniel 7: End Time World Powers

Chapter 7: End-Time World Powers

In Daniel 7, we read about Daniel's dream of end-time world powers

The Time of the Dream (vs. 1)

Daniel 7:1—In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions…

God gave this Dream to Daniel during the first year of Belshazzar—the last king of Babylon. The kingdom lasted about another two years after this dream. Chapter 8 includes the final mention of Belshazzar as king and Daniel records it as being his third year of rule.

Daniel was about 80 years of age at the time of his dream recorded in chapter 7:

Daniel's Age Duration Information
17 17 Daniel was 16 when he was taken captive and then was given 1 year of schooling in Babylon.
60 43 to the end of Nebuchadnezzar's reign
62 2 to the end (evil) Merodach reigned's reign
66 4 to the end of Nergal-shar-ezer's reign
67 9 months to the end of Labashi-Marduk's reign
78 11 to the end of Nabunahid's reign
79 1 into Belshazzar's reign

Daniel is quite neatly divided into two halves: historic and prophetic. Chapter 5 concludes with the slaying of Belshazzar and the fall of Babylon and Chapter 6 details the institution of a new government under Medo-Persia. Chronologically, Daniel 5 follows chapters 7 and 8, but Chapters 7 and 8 are so placed as to keep all the historic parts of the book (ch. 1-6) together and all the prophetic parts (ch. 7-12) together.

Daniel was quick to write down in entirety as soon as he awoke so as not to forget a single detail. Every detail is important.

The Contents of the Dream (vs. 2-14)

The contents of this dream can be seen in three parts: Winds Striving, Beasts Rising and the Ancient of Days.

"The Four Winds of the heavens strove upon the great sea. " (vs. 2)

Before the beasts came out of the great sea the four winds of the heavens strove or burst forth against it. This vehement and all-encompassing storm is Divine in its origin. The timing of the rise of the beasts is directly related to striving of the winds.

Some say this "Great Sea" is the Mediterranean sea, but in Revelation 13; and 17:15, 17 the sea is symbolic of peoples or nations. God is coming against his creation because it has positioned itself as the enemies of God. No matter what men may do Mark 4:37-41 reminds us that God is still the master of the sea.

Psalm 46:10—Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 148:8—Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:
Psalm 107:29—He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

"Four Great Beasts came up from the Sea." (vs. 3-8)

(vs.3) Four very different beasts rise up out of the sea. The governments and peoples they represent are very different from each other.

(vs.4) The First Like a Lion

(vs.5) The Second Like a Bear

(vs.6) The Third Like a Leopard

(vs.7-8) The Fourth was Unlike the Others

"I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit" (vs. 9-14)

Is this Prophecy already fulfilled or is it yet to take place?

Viewing This Prophecy as Fulfilled

The first beast which was like a lion is said to be the Babylonian Empire which was ruled in its beginning by Nebuchadnezzar.

The second beast which was like a bear is said to be the Medo-Persian Empire.

The third beast which was like a leopard is said to be the ancient Greek Empire.

The fourth beast which was diverse from the rest is said to be the ancient Roman Empire.

Some Objections to this Interpretation

(vs. 2) The Four World-Wide Empires did not arise in times of Storm or of tremendous commotion. The disturbances were long and they were gradual.

(vs. 5) The bear "raised itself upon one side" It made for itself one dominion, but Medo-Persia was two peoples: Medes and Persians.

(vs. 6) Alexander's kingdom arose as one kingdom and wasn't divided into four until after his death.

(vs. 7) The context of the word "before" is not in reference to time, but to position. The fourth beasts will devour the three beasts before it or in its way. Both Babylon and Medo-Persia are long gone by the time Historic Rome comes on the scene..

(vs. 12) The first three beasts had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. Alexander died before his kingdom came to an end.It is difficult to fit this into history. Nebuchadnezzar reigned until he died. The Medo-Persian Empire came to an end at the death of their king.

(vs. 16-17) The Angel says that these four kingdoms shall arise but at this time Babylon was in decline and was within a short time of dissolving.

(Chp.8) Chapter 8 satisfies the prophetic-historic accounts of Medo-Persia and Greece. Medo-Persia is more naturally seen as the ram with two horns and Greece with Alexander the Great fully fits the description of a he-goat with one horn and then four coming up. (vs. 20; vs. 21-22)

The Interpretation of the Dream (vs. 15-28)

Daniel was grieved and troubled by the visions in his head and so asked to understand their interpretation.

The four beasts are four kings. (vs. 17)

The four beasts "shall arise". That is, in relation to Daniel the prophecy is entirely futuristic and unfilled at the time he sees it.

The First Beast

The lion is a symbol of Great Britian. "The lions welps." Jeremiah 51:38. The Eagle is a symbol of the United States. The British Lion flying on the wings of the American Eagle. The Wings are Plucked Off. "Meral" to pull off -to make bald. (America is in for Judgment.) It has wings to soar, but that is taken from it and then it is remade. Could be something like the European Common Market. "Made To Stand Upon The Feet As A Man". It does not become a man only stands on its feet like a man. "A Man's Heart was given to it." Maybe this is when she helps Israel.

The Second Beast

The Bear is a symbol of Russia. "Raised up itself on one side" "One dominion " The Soviet Union has and continues to swallow up other nations. "It Had Three Ribs in the Mouth of It" ("between the teeth of it.") Swallowing up other nations. Ribs "Arise devour much flesh. " Communism has devoured much flesh.

The Third Beast

The Leopard could mean a tiger which is the national symbol of some of the far eastern powers. The third beast could be China, Japan or Korea. It Flies to Power supported by "Four wings of a bird. " Indicating a rapid take over. "Had also four heads" A united thing "And dominion was given to it."

The Fourth Beast

"Dreadful and terrible"
"Strong exceedingly"
"Had great Iron teeth"
"Devoured and brake in pieces. "
"Stamped the residue with the feet of it."
"Diverse from all the beasts that were before it."
"Had ten horns."
"There came up among them another little horn."
"Before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots." This is not Rome but a revived Roman Empire under the European Common Market out of which shall come the Anti-christ.

But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom (vs. 18)

Da 7:19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet; 20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. 21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; 22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

The Seventieth Week Or The Seven Years of Tribulation Daniel 9:24

Seventy Weeks of years were determined upon the Jewish Nation. Sixty nine of those weeks of years have already been fulfilled. There is yet one week of years that must be fulfilled. Seven years that God will again deal with the nation of Israel. In between the sixty-ninth and seventieth week there has been a period of Grace in which God has dealt with all the world.

According to what I understand from prophetic truth there will be another world war in which God will fight for the Nation of Israel, as He did in the Old Testament, and this will be the ushering in of the Seventieth week of years. As is often referred to as the Seven Years of Tribulation. Before this World War the Bride of Christ (the overcomer) will be translated as is painly revealed in the scripture. In Luke 21:36 "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to Escape all these things that shell come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." The Bride of Christ will be translated in the First Watch of the Night that is followed by the dark night of tribulation. Where in the Church that has been sleeping will be awakened by persecution during this first three and a half years. Matthew 25:5-6; Luke 12:35-38. "While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made. Behold the Bridegroom cometh; to ye out to meet Him."

I. The Bible Teaches that Within this Seven-Years of Tribulation Several Things Will Take Place:

  1. The Antichrist will arise — II Thess. 2:3
  2. The Persecution of the Church — Matthew 24:9
  3. The Revival of Joel's Prophecy - Joel 2:28-29
  4. The Rapture of the Church — I Thess. 4:16-17
  5. The Great Tribulation — Matthew 24:21; Rev. 7:14
  6. The Releasing of God's Judgments — Seals — Trumpets — Vials — Rev. 6:1 — 8:1; 8:2 - 11; 16:1 — 17
  7. The Wrath of God — II Thess. 1:7 — 8; Rev. 6:1 — 17
  8. The Kingdoms of this World becoming the Kingdoms of Our Lord — Rev. 11:15

II. The Bible Teches that there are Three Major sections to the Seventieth Week (The Tribulation).

  1. The Beginning of Sorrows — Matthew 24:8
  2. The Great Tribulation — Matthew 24:27; Rev. 7:18.
  3. The Day of the Lord — Matthew 24:29-31; Mark 13:24-26; Rev. 6:17; Rev. 16:14.

III. The Bible teaches that two events must take place before the Day of The Lord.

  1. The Apostasy of the Church — Rev. 3:14-16
  2. The Revealing of the Man of Sin. II Thess. 2:1-4 IV. The Bible Teaches that the Great Tribulation begins in the middle of the Seven-Year Period. Matthew 24:21; Rev. 7:14.

V. The Bible Teaches When the Day of the Lord Will Come. Rev. 11:15 "At the Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet." Rev. 6:17 " For the great day of His Wrath is Come."

VI. The Bible Teaches that the Day of the Lord is a time of unprecedented judgment upon the whole world. Dan. 12:1; Matthew 24:21; II Thess. 1:7-8.

VII. The Bible Teaches there are two phases to His Second Coming-

  1. The Secret Coming — "In the air- I Thess. 4:16-17. The Parousia "His coming — Like a Thief — I Thess. 5:1-2. The Rapture — "Harpaxo" to snatch or catch away. Latin "Rapere"- "Raptum" to seize and carry away. This is where our English work rapture comes from.
  2. The "Epipheneia" — Eng. "Epiphany" — The Revelation — Luke 21:25-27; I Cor. 15:52; II Thess. ; Rev. 1:7

VIII. The Bible Teaches Some Will Escape All.

  1. The Bride (The Overcomer). Luke 21:36; Rev. 3:10; Rev. 3:21.
  2. The Bride will return with the Bridegroom- To catch away the church for the Marriage Supper. Matthew 25:1-6 "Bride and Bridegroom." The Vulgate — Latin — Syrian versions — Moffatt. — Luke 12:35-38; Rev. 19:9.

Dan. 10:12-21

There are two epochs in Hebrew history. When angels are specially prominent.

1. The time of the judges. Destitute of direct Revelation or prophetic guidance.

2. The times of captivity. Under great stress and trial. The Angel speaks to Daniel - Words of encouragement. vs. 12. "Fear not Daniel" Perhaps the signs of terror were still manifested in Daniel and the angel spoke encouragingly to him. vs. 19. "Peace be unto thee" "Be strong yea be strong" "When he had spoken unto me I was strengthened."

I. The Combatants -

A. The Opponents.

1. They are Spiritual. vs. 13 "The Prince of the Kingdom of Persia." vs. 20.

"The Prince of Grecia" Psa. 2:2 "The Kings of the earth." There is a spiritual king behind the earthly. Eph.6:12.

2.They Are Numerous -

There are many ranks of evil which are leagued against us under the leadership of Satan. These evil spirits have a hierarchy of different orders and different ranks. "Principalities Powers Rulers of the darkness of this world Spiritual wickedness."

I Tim. 4:1 "now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils."
