Ephesians 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Study with the intent of acquiring truth to help others as well as ourselves. NOT TO WIN A DEBATE

It is true of Scripture as all "manifestations of the Spirit": That the manifestations of the spirit are given to every man to profit withall.

1 Corinthians 12:7 — But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

• Keep an emphasis on prayer coupled with your study.

Philippians 1:9 — And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

• Interpretation is made by comparing Scripture with Scripture.

2 Peter 1:20,21 — Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Some Keys to Studying Revelation in Particular

• It IS GIVEN that we understand it! Disappointingly, the book of Revelation is a source of bewilderment for many, but God has not given any part of his Holy Word for the purpose of confusing us, but for helping us.

Daniel 9:13 — As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

• Don't major on the minors.

• HISTORICAL SETTING: John was exiled by emperor Domition in his persecution of the Christians to the Isle of Patmos. In the center of this island stands today a Greek orthodox church, like an enormous fortress.

• SCOPE of this book:

It is addressed to 7 churches of Asia. All existed within a 150 sq miles of where John was exiled. 1:1; 3; 9;

• Adopt some Rules for Consistent Interpretation

In this study, we will seek to faithfully apply the following principles.

• Unless textual statements or clues are given otherwise, we will interpret Revelations prophetic events as being fulfilled in the sequence they are written.

• Being a book of prophecy, we will look to the future first for fulfillment before the past.\n\n- We will interpret the numbers of this book literally first, before applying typical meaning to them.

• We will interpret symbols consistently through the book of Revelation and in the greater context of the Bible as a whole.

• God is good and He keeps His Word. We will shine the light of these truths and the revelations of God's nature throughout the Bible upon all the events of this Book and with them temper our interpretations. ( Psalm 73:1 )
