# Motivations for Purity

## I. Distinctively Christian + Separateness

> 1 Thessalonians 5:22 — Abstain from all appearance of evil.

### a. Sanctification

> Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

> 1Th 5:23 ¶ And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

> Heb 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

> 1Pe 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

### a. The "World"

> 1 John 2:15 — Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

## b. Influenced - Desensitized

> Matthew 6:22 — The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

> Lamentations 3:51 — Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

> Psalms 101:3 — I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

- Culture and Its Influence
- Conscience Seared
- Keeping the door to our heart closed to the devil.

> Job 31:1 ¶ I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

## c. Depart

> 2 Timothy 2:19 — Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

## II. The Christian Ideal

> Matthew 5:48 — Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

- God is absolutely true and absolutely holy.

> Hebrews 1:9 — Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

### a. "Lifting a Standard"

### b. The Conversation of the Ages + Movements

Every believer although autonomous and a free moral agent enters into Christ from within some sort of context.

## III. Compromise + Backsliding

> Luke 9:62 &dmdash; And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

## IV. The Impending "End" & Readiness / Being "Right" Before God

> Matthew 24:44 — Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

> Luke 13:27 — But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
