God's love Through the Ages

Cast: Narrator, Joshua, 2 Israelite spies, Rahab, king of Jericho, and two soldiers of Jericho.

Introduction: God has had many ways of showing his love to humanity. we talk about specific stories but really God has been speaking all along since the beginning of time and we want to share a few of those stories tonight that show “God's love Through the Ages”. We start with a very well-known story about a man named Joshua and a woman named Rahab.

  1. Act 1 (Rahab and the Spies)

Narrator: the Bible tells us that Moses and the Israelites wandered in the desert without reaching the promised land for 40 years. After Moses, died God told Joshua that he would become a new leader to both feel God's promise to his people, and he would lead them into the Promised Land.

Narrator: So Joshua assembled the Israelites, and told them to get ready to cross the Jordan River to take over the land. Before they took over the land, Joshua chose to spies to check out one of the most wicked cities, Jericho. There the spies entered the house of Rahab. The Bible tells us that Rahab and the people of that entire region had heard about the power of the God of Israel, and that she and they were very afraid. Because Rahab fear God, she wanted to help the spies by hiding them from the king of Jericho and his soldiers.

Spy 1: (sneaking away and finding Rahab) Shalom, peace to you! We are hiding from your king. Will you hide us and keep us safe?

**Raha**b: I have heard miraculous stories about how your God parted the Red Sea to help you escape from Egypt, and how your God defeated all the armies that came against you. I will hide you because I want to serve your God. Come get on my rooftop and I'll cover you with this grain so no one will find you!

King of Jericho (Caleb): ( speaking to his soldiers) I have heard that the Israelites are ready to take over our land, go hunt their spies down and kill them before they have a chance to defeat us!

Soldier 1 (Benjamin): ( pretending to look for the spies but do not find them) all spies, where are you? If we find you, we will kill you! Come out, come out, wherever you are!

Rahab: please come search!

Soldier 1( Benjamin): okay thanks! ( Soldiers runaway looking for the spies)

Rahab: You-hooo! … Spies … the coast is clear. Come out. It's safe!

Spy 2 (Stevie): wow, that was close! Thank you for hiding us. We'll be going now.

Rahab: wait a minute! Not so fast! Since I was kind to you, please protect my family and me so we are not killed!

Spy 1 (Jeremiah): your lives for our lives! If you don't tell on us, we will treat you kindly and protect you and your family when we invade Jericho and take it over.

Rahab: okay! Here, crawl down this road through the window. Then run to the hills and hide there until the soldiers come back to the city. Then you will know that it is safe for you to return to your camp.

Spy 2: as a sign of our promise to protect you, and your promise to not tell on us, when we enter the land to take it over, hang a Scarlet cord in the window.

Rahab: I will do as you say.( Rahab tides of scarlet cord on the window[ the back of the chair].)

Spy 1: It is time to take over the land. Let's go and conquer the land that God promised to Abraham.

Narrator: And that's just what happened! Yes, they won the land, but God protected and preserved a woman named Rahab. So it was that Rahab married one of the spies and they even had a baby. God showed Mercy to a woman named Rahab. She is even found and the line of Christ. Many years passed and rahab's baby grew up. this child we know now is Boaz. Which leads us to our next story.

  1. Act 2 (Ruth and Boaz)

Narrator: Ruth and Boaz is a story of how God turned a very sad situation into a beautiful love story. Ruth being recently widowed and takes care of her dear mother-in-law and works hard in the fields when 1 day…

Boaz: hello there who are you!

Ruth: my name is Ruth and I live over past the hill a little. I take care of my mother-in-law Naomi.

Boaz: well, please help yourself to our water when you need it.

Narrator: So it was that when Ruth came home and told her mother-in-law about the Kinsman.

Ruth: I met someone, Boaz!

Naomi ( Ashley): Boaz! Oh he is such a wonderful Kinsman. You should marry him!

Narrator: That too is what happened…

(Go down and have baby)

Narrator: They too had a baby (Lineage... Who was the son of Jesse and the son of David. Which brings us to our next story...)

  1. Act 3 (David and Goliath)

Narrator: The Philistines gathered for war against Israel. A champion named Goliath, who is from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was very very tall and covered with armor. He defied Israel saying,

Goliath: ( stepping forward) choose a man to fight me! If he kills me, we will become your subjects but if I win, you will become our subjects and serve us!( Israelites shutter and fear.)

Narrator: ( David enters) A young Shepherd named David, came into the camp of Israel, and brought supplies. When he arrived he heard about Goliath.

Israelite 1: He comes to challenge Israel.

Israelite woman ( Anna): King Saul has offered a great reward for anyone who can kill him.

David: who does he think he is to defy the armies of the Living God?

David: ( Bows) Don't worry because of the Philistines, I, your servant, will go fight him.

Saul: you can't fight him. You're only a boy and he is a great warrior!

David: I can protect sheep from wild animals. The Lord who rescued me from the animals were rescued me from the hand of this philistine.

Saul: Go and the Lord be with you.

Narrator: sawfirst gave David his armor and David tried it on but it just didn't feel right( pause) instead he took his staff and sling and found five smooth stones.( Pause) when Goliath saw David coming, he laughed…

Goliath: Am I a dog that you come after me with sticks? Come here and I'll make you food for the wild animals! ( Goliath last, all the Philistines laugh. Philistines make a funny face at David, and then hide behind the Goliath.)

David: you come with a sword but I come in the name of the Lord!

Narrator: ( actors act as described) David and Goliath move toward each other. David picked a stone from his bag and slung it and struck Goliath on the forehead and Goliath fell face-down, dead.

Narrator: And God once again showed Victory to Israel! And then all this God showed his love to his people, love for David. David had a son named Solomon and whose line eventually was born Jesus!( Manger scene)

**Narrator: **God uses ordinary people to fulfill His will! God has been speaking to all of us! He wants all of us to be a part of his plan: the Plan of Redemption! That is the great purpose for this baby coming. The purpose of Christ was to be a savior and a deliverer! God has been speaking, but are we listening?

David's Great Escape

PUZZLE KINDS:

  1. Numbers and Texts - Basic math puzzles for hints or puzzle solutions. - Equations. - Crosswords and missing-letter puzzles

  2. Physical Puzzles - Undoing knots. - Moving large objects - Easily moved objects.

  3. Light and Sound - light and sound cues - Listen closely to background sound. The ambient noise around you could be giving you important clues! Listen for Morse code through beeps or taps, whispered words, and the direction noises are coming from. - Pay attention to where lights aren’t shining

  4. Hidden Objects Look through books. A book safe, which is created by hollowing out the inside of a large book, is one of the most popular ways an escape room will hide clues. - Leave no drawer unopened. - more than one thing hidden in a place.

  5. Visual Design The room’s design isn’t just for atmospheric effect; common escape room puzzles will almost always be incorporated into the design of the room. Take a close look at baseboards and edges. Is there a suspicious pattern of dashes and dots against the bottom of one of the walls? You could have to translate Morse code that just looks like decorative filler. - anything that seems out of place for the theme.

  6. Logic Puzzles - you’ll need more logic than knowledge to solve common escape room puzzles. - Pay attention to repeated themes. Does the bookshelf have six copies of one book, while the rest of the books are unique? - Take note of mysterious symbols. Codes don’t have to be previously-established to be utilized with common escape room puzzles. Instead, utilize only the clues you’re given.

  7. Combination Puzzles - Common escape room puzzles don’t rely on just one puzzle type. You’ll usually have to combine them! - Keep these different puzzle types at the forefront of your mind. When you know the types of puzzles to look for, it’s easier to put them all together once you’re presented with a combination puzzle. - Don’t be afraid to try multiple options. Maybe the picture you’re looking at has a secret code hidden in it, or the puzzle that you think is an equation is actually a logic puzzle. - You may have to combine more than one puzzle type. If one clue has already utilized visual design and hidden objects, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve reached the solution. Keep trying different strategies.

1 Samuel 18:11; 19:10

1 Samuel 24:14 — After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

1 Samuel 26:20 — Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.

"They hated me without a cause" (David said this of Saul.)

"My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?" (David said when Saul surrounded him 1 Sam 23:26) "Trust in shadow of God's wings" (spoken by both David's grandparents, Boaz and Ruth: Ruth 2:12; 3:9)

“Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him" (Saul said this mockingly to David when he had David surrounded 1 Sam 23:26)
