We start with a very well-known story about a man named Joshua and a woman named Rahab. 1. Act 1 (Rahab and the Spies) **Narrator**: the Bible tells us that Moses and the Israelites wandered in the desert without reaching the promised land for 40 years. After Moses, died God told Joshua that he would become a new leader to both feel God's promise to his people, and he would lead them into the Promised Land. **Narrator**: So Joshua assembled the Israelites, and told them to get ready to cross the Jordan River to take over the land. Before they took over the land, Joshua chose to spies to check out one of the most wicked cities, Jericho. There the spies entered the house of Rahab. The Bible tells us that Rahab and the people of that entire region had heard about the power of the God of Israel, and that she and they were very afraid. Because Rahab fear God, she wanted to help the spies by hiding them from the king of Jericho and his soldiers. **Spy 1**: (sneaking away and finding Rahab) Shalom, peace to you! We are hiding from your king. Will you hide us and keep us safe? \*\*Raha\*\*b: I have heard miraculous stories about how your God parted the Red Sea to help you escape from Egypt, and how your God defeated all the armies that came against you. I will hide you because I want to serve your God. Come get on my rooftop and I'll cover you with this grain so no one will find you! **King of Jericho (Caleb):** ( speaking to his soldiers) I have heard that the Israelites are ready to take over our land, go hunt their spies down and kill them before they have a chance to defeat us! **Soldier 1 (Benjamin):** ( pretending to look for the spies but do not find them) all spies, where are you? If we find you, we will kill you! Come out, come out, wherever you are! **Rahab:** please come search! **Soldier 1( Benjamin):** okay thanks! ( Soldiers runaway looking for the spies) **Rahab:** You-hooo! … Spies … the coast is clear. Come out. It's safe! **Spy 2 (Stevie):** wow, that was close! Thank you for hiding us. We'll be going now. **Rahab:** wait a minute! Not so fast! Since I was kind to you, please protect my family and me so we are not killed! **Spy 1 (Jeremiah):** your lives for our lives! If you don't tell on us, we will treat you kindly and protect you and your family when we invade Jericho and take it over. **Rahab:** okay! Here, crawl down this road through the window. Then run to the hills and hide there until the soldiers come back to the city. Then you will know that it is safe for you to return to your camp. **Spy 2:** as a sign of our promise to protect you, and your promise to not tell on us, when we enter the land to take it over, hang a Scarlet cord in the window. **Rahab:** I will do as you say.( Rahab tides of scarlet cord on the window\[ the back of the chair\].) **Spy 1:** It is time to take over the land. Let's go and conquer the land that God promised to Abraham. - - - - - - **Narrator**: And that's just what happened! Yes, they won the land, but God protected and preserved a woman named Rahab. So it was that Rahab married one of the spies and they even had a baby. God showed Mercy to a woman named Rahab. She is even found and the line of Christ. Many years passed and rahab's baby grew up. this child we know now is Boaz. Which leads us to our next story. - - - - - - 2. Act 2 (Ruth and Boaz) **Narrator**: Ruth and Boaz is a story of how God turned a very sad situation into a beautiful love story. Ruth being recently widowed and takes care of her dear mother-in-law and works hard in the fields when 1 day… **Boaz:** hello there who are you! **Ruth:** my name is Ruth and I live over past the hill a little. I take care of my mother-in-law Naomi. **Boaz:** well, please help yourself to our water when you need it. **Narrator**: So it was that when Ruth came home and told her mother-in-law about the Kinsman. **Ruth:** I met someone, Boaz! **Naomi ( Ashley):** Boaz! Oh he is such a wonderful Kinsman. You should marry him! **Narrator**: That too is what happened… (Go down and have baby) **Narrator**: They too had a baby (Lineage... Who was the son of Jesse and the son of David. Which brings us to our next story...) 3. Act 3 (David and Goliath) **Narrator**: The Philistines gathered for war against Israel. A champion named Goliath, who is from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was very very tall and covered with armor. He defied Israel saying, **Goliath:** ( stepping forward) choose a man to fight me! If he kills me, we will become your subjects but if I win, you will become our subjects and serve us!( Israelites shutter and fear.) **Narrator**: ( David enters) A young Shepherd named David, came into the camp of Israel, and brought supplies. When he arrived he heard about Goliath. **Israelite 1:** He comes to challenge Israel. **Israelite woman ( Anna):** King Saul has offered a great reward for anyone who can kill him. **David:** who does he think he is to defy the armies of the Living God? **David:** ( Bows) Don't worry because of the Philistines, I, your servant, will go fight him. **Saul:** you can't fight him. You're only a boy and he is a great warrior! **David:** I can protect sheep from wild animals. The Lord who rescued me from the animals were rescued me from the hand of this philistine. **Saul:** Go and the Lord be with you. **Narrator:** sawfirst gave David his armor and David tried it on but it just didn't feel right( pause) instead he took his staff and sling and found five smooth stones.( Pause) when Goliath saw David coming, he laughed… **Goliath:** Am I a dog that you come after me with sticks? Come here and I'll make you food for the wild animals! ( Goliath last, all the Philistines laugh. Philistines make a funny face at David, and then hide behind the Goliath.) **David:** you come with a sword but I come in the name of the Lord! **Narrator:** ( actors act as described) David and Goliath move toward each other. David picked a stone from his bag and slung it and struck Goliath on the forehead and Goliath fell face-down, dead. **Narrator:** And God once again showed Victory to Israel! And then all this God showed his love to his people, love for David. David had a son named Solomon and whose line eventually was born Jesus!( Manger scene) \*\*Narrator: \*\*God uses ordinary people to fulfill His will! God has been speaking to all of us! He wants all of us to be a part of his plan: the Plan of Redemption! That is the great purpose for this baby coming. The purpose of Christ was to be a savior and a deliverer! God has been speaking, but are we listening?# Nehemiah Rebuilding the Wall ## Description - Written for Antioch Youth Camp, inspiration from the book of Nehemiah and this [script](https://www.puppetresources.com/index.php?scriptID=2993&what=viewscript#sthash.oiMUH7H5.nBt9mbvy.dpbs) from puppet resources.com. - Number of Voices (2) Joe/Jo(sephine) and Sebrina - Props: 2 Puppets, 1 dust mask, 1 goggles, 1 set of ear plugs ## Script - **SEBRINA:** \[introduces herself\] Hi my name is Miss Sebrina. How is everyone doing? What kind of vehicle did you ride in to camp? \[or some similar question requiring different answers\] - **JOE:** \[pops up and speaks in muffled voice with goggles, mask, and earplugs\] Hi Miss Sebrina! - **SEBRINA :** Is that you Joe? I can barely recognize you and it's hard to understand what you’re saying. - **JOE:** \[removes and drops earplugs, mask, and goggles\] Oh sorry, I'm just getting all geared up to help my parents to muck out a home that was flooded last week. - **SEBRINA:** Wow, that's very good of you to help someone in need, but what is a "muck out"? - **JOE:** Well it’s kind of just what it sounds like. We go in the house and get the muck out! - **SEBRINA:** Ok what is muck? - **JOE:** Oh, that’s easy. It’s the yucky stuff left behind when water gets into a home, like wet carpet, furniture, books, and anything else that gets soggy and ruined and can’t be used again. Now that I think about it, you could call it a YUCK out! - **SEBRINA:** Sounds a like a dirty job, but somebody needs to do it. The work you and your family are doing reminds me of a story in the bible. - **JOE:** Please tell me more. I can’t wait! - **SEBRINA:** I have an even better idea, How about you help me tell it! - **JOE:** \[Nods head emphatically\] - **SEBRINA:** When I turn to you, I want you to give us your best impersonation of the emotion I mention. Can you do that? - **JOE:** \[looks toward audience proudly\] I sure can. \[pauses and turns toward SEBRINA\] But, what's an impersonation? - **SEBRINA:** It means you pretend you are feeling BOSSY and act like a person who is bossy would. - **JOE:** \[ad lib bossy, "Miss Sebrina, I'm in charge now. Im gonna be telling this story and you can just listen from there."\] - **SEBRINA:** \[almost mad\] Now wait a minute! \[pause\] Oh, I see what you did there. - **SEBRINA:** Well, a man named Nehemiah was upset when he heard that his home city of Jerusalem was in ruins and YUCK, YUCK, YUCK or mayabe even MUCK,MUCK,MUK. Its walls and gates were broken down, too. He was really SAD. \[turns to JOE to cue "SAD" impersonation.\] - **JOE:** \[ad lib SAD, "Sobbing, Crying, I can't believe it, etc."\] - **SEBRINA:** Now Nehemiah lived far away from his home city of Jerusalem and worked as a foreign king's cupbearer. He was normally a pretty happy guy and when the king saw him so sad the king let him return home to Jerusalem to repair his city. Nehemiah was EXCITED. \[turns to JOE to cue "EXCITED" impersonation.\] - **JOE:** \[ad lib EXCITED, "YIPPEE!, etc."\] - **SEBRINA:** When Nehemiah returned home, he looked over all of the city, and it saw it was much worse than he imagined! He was going to need **LOTS** of help to repair it. - **JOE:** Wow! Repairing a whole city? Nehemiah must have needed at least 20 people! - **SEBRINA:** Joe, he needed way more than 20 people. So, he gathered all the leaders and told them why he was there and why it was so important to repair God’s city. They all agreed to help and began to fix all of the walls and gates surrounding Jerusalem. \[turns to JOE to cue "WORKING HAPPILY" impersonation.\] - **JOE:** \[begins to sing\] When we all work together, together, together, When we all work together how much happier we'll be. - **SEBRINA:** That’s right Joe. Just like back then, God is pleased when he sees us work together to take care of God’s people. - **JOE:** That is great story Miss Sebrina! I think that the work we are all doing today, helping to fix homes after the hurricane, is good because it makes God happy when we help each other out. - **SEBRINA:** \[addressing the audience\] Remember everybody, there is still much work to do to fix the broken world around us. THE END.# Being a Character Versus Having Character ## Concept Acting up and acting out is no way to be. Much better to Have a good character. Several outlandish, cartoonish characters can be contrasted with a parallel positive, Bibical character. - "mopey" vs. neheniah who had a mind to work - "tazmanian/always in a hurry" vs ....... ........# Puppets Skits by Others 1.
