# Matthew 6 - Laying Up Treasures

## Introduction - Lay Up

> Matthew 6:20 &mdash; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

- LAY UP: to amass or reserve; heap;  treasure; lay in store
- LUke 12:16-21

## I. Matthew 6:1-18: The **Motive** of Our Righteousness, Prayer and Fasting

Without a God honoring motive, these are missed opportunities.

- Alms, Righteousness vs. 1-4
- Prayer vs. 5-15
- Fasting vs. 16-18

## II. Matthew 6:19-24: The **Location** of of Our Treasure

- Where your TREASURE is = your HEART is

> Mt 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

- Who are we serving? will fill us with "light" or "darkness" (vs. 23)

## III. Matthew 6:25-34: The **Security** of Our Treasure

> Hebrews 11:1 &mdash; Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

- COLLATERAL: something pledged as security for repayment of a loan,
- Trust the "PROCESS"
- Keeping Faith is Knowing the Score
- "Take No Thought" - Be not therefore **anxiously careful**. 
- dividing or distracting the mind. 
- Faith filled

- v. 25 Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
- v. 26 Fowls Sow Not, Reap Not, Gather Not into Barns: Are ye not much better than they? --- God feeds them.
- Mt 6:27  Which of you by **taking thought** can add one cubit unto his stature?
- Mt 6:28 And why **take ye thought** for raiment?

> shall he not much more clothe you, **O ye of little faith**?

> Mt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Mt 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
