# The Holy Spirit Moves Me

## I. The Holy Ghost is a Person

> 1 Corinthians 4:21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness? [an impersonal force or influence; a mind to]

- a power, a force, a wind
- can get "caught up in the spirit of the moment"
- **emotional contagion** (where we literally "catch" the emotions of those around us) and
- deindividuation (where our self-awareness dips as we merge with a group or an intense environment). [singing in a choir]
- **SAME MIND**: Col 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

> Romans 8:27 — And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is **the mind of the Spirit**, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

> 1 Corinthians 12:11 .. as HE wills

> Genesis 1:2 — And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

## II. The Holy Spirit Makes Me Alive

- Born of the Spirit (generative

> Joh 3:1 ¶ There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 **The wind bloweth where it listeth** [chooses], and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

## III. The Holy Spirit Moves Me

> 1 Corinthians 14:33 — For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

- from 182; instability, i.e. disorder:--commotion, confusion, tumult. (James 3:16 where envying and strife = confusion)

> 1Co 14:40 — Let all things be done decently and in order.

> Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; **lead** me into the land of uprightness.

What are we doing?

> 1Co 14:15 ¶ What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

> 1 Corinthians 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

> Luke 9:51-56 — ¶ And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, **Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of**. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

> 1 John 4:13 — Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

- led ... spirit

> Mt 4:1 ¶ Then was Jesus **led up of the Spirit** into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

> Lu 4:1 ¶ And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was **led by the Spirit** into the wilderness,>

> Ro 8:14 For as many as are **led by the Spirit** of God, they are the sons of God.

> Ga 5:18 But if ye be **led of the Spirit**, ye are not under the law.

> Acts 18:5 — And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, **Paul was pressed in the spirit**, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

- constrainted by the Spirit of God in an extraordinary (hear no more of Silas, perhaps he died in Macedonia)
