Daniel 11:1-45
I. The Vision of the Kings in Conflict -
1. The time of the Vision - vs. 1
"In the first year of Darius the Mede"
2. The Meaning of the Vision -
The vision is divided into two parts.
(1.) Israel before Christ's First Advent.
Events prophesied of concerning the Grecian period up to Antiochus Epiphanies his persecution of the Jews. Daniel 11:2-35.
(2.) Israel before Christ's Second Advent.
End-time events prophesied with the Anti-christ prominent. Daniel 11:36-12:3.
3. The main events of the Vision -
(1.) The four Kings of Persia - Daniel 11:2.
After Cyrus - Cambyses (Cyrus' son) - Smerdis - Darius Hystaspis - Xerxes - (Zurk-sez). The Greek name of Ahasuerus husband of Esther. He ruled the Persian Empire from B.C. 486 - 465.
(2.) The Great King of Greece - vs. 3.
"A mighty King shall stand up." Alexander the Great. His kingdom divided to his four generals vs 4.
(3.) The King of Egypt - vs 5.
"The king of the south (Ptolemaic Kingdom) Perhaps Ptolemy Lagi was the king.
(4.) The King of Syria - vs 6.
" The King of the north." Seleucid Kingdom. Seleucus was the king of Syria. There was conflict between the Kings vs. 6 - 20.
(5.) Another King of Syria vs. 21 - 22.
"A vile person." Antiochus IV Epiphanies ruled from 175 -163 B.C.
(6.) The King of the End Times - vs. 36.
A wilful king - the Anti-christ - His reign."Till the indignation be accomplished:" The tribulation - The Judgment of God. Isa. 26:20 -21.
(7.) The king will be part Jew - And Part Assyrian.
" God of his fathers" vs 3 "Elohiym" & "Assyrian…beaten down." Isa. 30:31.
II. The Anti-Christ Described -
1. His Character - vs. 21 -39.
(1.) A Man of Peace - vs. 21.
"He shall come in peaceably"
(2.) A Man of Oratorical Power - vs. 21.
"He shall…obtain the Kingdom by flatteries."
(3.) A Man of Great Deception - vs. 23.
"He shall work deceitfully:"
(4.) A Man of Self-Will - vs. 36.
"The king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god"
(5.) A Man of Blasphemy - vs. 36.
"He…shall speak marvellous against the God of gods." Rev. 13:6.
(6.) A Homosexual - vs. 37.
"Neither shall he regard the…desire of women."
(7.) A Worshiper of Demons - vs. 38.
"In his estate shall he honor the god of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not."
(8.) An Idolater - vs. 38.
"A god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold and silver and precious stones and pleasant things."
2. His Actions - vs. 40 - 45.
(1.) Conflict with Egypt - vs 40.
"The King of the south push at him."
(2.) Conflict with Syria - vs. 40.
"The King of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind."
(3.) Conflict with Palestine - vs. 41.
"He shall enter also into the glorious land and many countries shall be overthrown."
(4.) Conflict with China - vs. 44.
"Tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him:"
(5.) Conflict with Christ - vs. 45.
"He shall come to his end and none shall help him." Rev. 19:19 -20.
