Daniel 9:1-27

I. Daniel's Occupation.

1. He Studied.

Other duties -but his first concern knowing the will of God.

2. What He Studied.

"Understood by books" vs. 2

Note: the plural aspect -"Books"

3. What He Learned In Study.

"The number of years" vs. 2"70" years.

"In the desolations of Jerusalem"

4. The Time of His Study. vs. 2.

In the first year of Darius 539 B.C.

II. Daniel's Prayer

1. A Determined Prayer vs. 3

"To seek by prayer and supplications with fasting and sackcloth and ashes"

2. A Humble Prayer vs. 4

"And made my confession" - "0 Lord! the great and dreadful God"

3. A Believing Prayer.

"Keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him and to them that keep His commandments"

4.. A Repentant Prayer vs. 5-15.

"We have sinned"

5. A Restoring Prayer vs. 16.

"Let thine anger and fury be turned away"

"Cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary" vs. 17.

6. The Pleas In His Prayer.

III. The Answer To Daniel's Prayer.

1. The Time of the Answer.

(1.) "While I was speaking in prayer." vs. 20: Isa. 65:24.

(2. ) "About the time of the evening oblation" vs. 21.

2. The Messenger of the Answer.

(1.) "The man Gabriel" vs. 21.

(2.) The Messenger Angel" - Luke 1:19.

3. The Answer Itself.

(1.) "Informed'" vs. 22.

(2.) "Skill and Understanding" vs. 22.

(3.) "At the beginning of thy supplications" vs. 23.

"The commandment came forth" It has been signed. "And I am come to shew thee" - "Understand and consider the vision"

IV. The Message Contained In The Answer.

A. The Time Determined.

"Seventy Weeks" Weeks of years. 70 times 7 = 490 years.

1.The Beginning of the "Seventy Weeks" vs. 25 "From the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem." B.C.445-434.

2.The End of the "Seventy Weeks" "Unto the Messiah the Prince" vs. 25.This is the Second Coming of Christ.

3.The Lord's First Coming. vs. 26 "After threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off 62 weeks of years.

4.The City Taken vs. 26. 70 A.D. 7 weeks of years 62 and 7 the total 69 years. One Week of Years left. We are in the Time of Grace.

5.The Tribulation. "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week."

B. The People and The Land. vs. 24

"Upon thy people and upon thy holy city."

The reasons for the Determination. vs. 24

(1.) To finish the transgression.

(2.) To make an end of sin.

(3.) To make reconciliation for iniquity.

(4.) To bring in everlasting righteousness.

(5.) To seal up the vision and prophecy.

(6.) To anoint the Most Holy.

The Seventieth Week Or The Seven Years of Tribulation Daniel 9:24

Seventy Weeks of years were determined upon the Jewish Nation. Sixty nine of those weeks of years have already been fulfilled. There is yet one week of years that must be fulfilled. Seven years that God will again deal with the nation of Israel. In between the sixty-ninth and seventieth week there has been a period of Grace in which God has dealt with all the world.

According to what I understand from prophetic truth there will be another world war in which God will fight for the Nation of Israel, as He did in the Old Testament, and this will be the ushering in of the Seventieth week of years. As is often referred to as the Seven Years of Tribulation. Before this World War the Bride of Christ (the overcomer) will be translated as is painly revealed in the scripture. In Luke 21:36 "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to Escape all these things that shell come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." The Bride of Christ will be translated in the First Watch of the Night that is followed by the dark night of tribulation. Where in the Church that has been sleeping will be awakened by persecution during this first three and a half years. Matthew 25:5-6; Luke 12:35-38. "While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made. Behold the Bridegroom cometh; to ye out to meet Him."

I. The Bible Teaches that Within this Seven-Years of Tribulation Several Things Will Take Place:

  1. The Antichrist will arise — II Thess. 2:3
  2. The Persecution of the Church — Matthew 24:9
  3. The Revival of Joel's Prophecy - Joel 2:28-29
  4. The Rapture of the Church — I Thess. 4:16-17
  5. The Great Tribulation — Matthew 24:21; Rev. 7:14
  6. The Releasing of God's Judgments — Seals — Trumpets — Vials — Rev. 6:1 — 8:1; 8:2 - 11; 16:1 — 17
  7. The Wrath of God — II Thess. 1:7 — 8; Rev. 6:1 — 17
  8. The Kingdoms of this World becoming the Kingdoms of Our Lord — Rev. 11:15

II. The Bible Teches that there are Three Major sections to the Seventieth Week (The Tribulation).

  1. The Beginning of Sorrows — Matthew 24:8
  2. The Great Tribulation — Matthew 24:27; Rev. 7:18.
  3. The Day of the Lord — Matthew 24:29-31; Mark 13:24-26; Rev. 6:17; Rev. 16:14.

III. The Bible teaches that two events must take place before the Day of The Lord.

  1. The Apostasy of the Church — Rev. 3:14-16
  2. The Revealing of the Man of Sin. II Thess. 2:1-4 IV. The Bible Teaches that the Great Tribulation begins in the middle of the Seven-Year Period. Matthew 24:21; Rev. 7:14.

V. The Bible Teaches When the Day of the Lord Will Come. Rev. 11:15 "At the Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet." Rev. 6:17 " For the great day of His Wrath is Come."

VI. The Bible Teaches that the Day of the Lord is a time of unprecedented judgment upon the whole world. Dan. 12:1; Matthew 24:21; II Thess. 1:7-8.

VII. The Bible Teaches there are two phases to His Second Coming-

  1. The Secret Coming — "In the air- I Thess. 4:16-17. The Parousia "His coming — Like a Thief — I Thess. 5:1-2. The Rapture — "Harpaxo" to snatch or catch away. Latin "Rapere"- "Raptum" to seize and carry away. This is where our English work rapture comes from.
  2. The "Epipheneia" — Eng. "Epiphany" — The Revelation — Luke 21:25-27; I Cor. 15:52; II Thess. ; Rev. 1:7

VIII. The Bible Teaches Some Will Escape All.

  1. The Bride (The Overcomer). Luke 21:36; Rev. 3:10; Rev. 3:21.
  2. The Bride will return with the Bridegroom- To catch away the church for the Marriage Supper. Matthew 25:1-6 "Bride and Bridegroom." The Vulgate — Latin — Syrian versions — Moffatt. — Luke 12:35-38; Rev. 19:9.
