Psalm 123

  1. Psalm of God’s present dealings

“our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us”

Ps 123:1 <<A Song of degrees.>> Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

1Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

1Peter 4:10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

I see a slight incline,

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Just ahead I see the way to increase upward; a strong solid incline going only up.

Ga 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Pr 2:2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

  • Time to battle
  • Time to face the Hottest Battle

  1. Facing the hottest battle in life and you retire from them and leave them to be smitten and die.

    1. Careless—unwise in battle

NEED    Be Wise in battle but Be Wiser in Battle

    1. Heartless—weak hearted

NEED   Be strong in battle but be stronger in battle.

    1. Selfish—self-interested

NEED Be in Battle but be more into the battle yourself.

Be in battle for His name sake not your own.

Be in battle for His name sake while yours is not known.

Be in battle for His name sake but not alone.

  • It is not wise to be in battle alone
  • It is not safe to be in battle alone
  • It is not battle strong to be in battle alone
  • It is not battle strong to be alone without battle.

THERE ARE THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO AND YOU COULD HAVE DONE THEM BEFORE IF YOU WANTED TO BUT:

  1. David could have went to Battle,

But David tarried still at Jerusalem

  1. Joab could have fought harder,

But David tarried still at Jerusalem

  1. Uriah could have lived,

But David tarried still at Jerusalem

  1. Jerusalem Could withstand the accusations

But David tarried still at Jerusalem

  1. The enemies would not be able to blaspheme God so freely.

But David tarried still at Jerusalem

1Ki 20:28 And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
