Matthew 10:39 — He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Matthew 16:25 — For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Mark 8:35 — For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

Luke 9:24 — For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

John 12:25 — He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Luke 17:33-37 — Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. 34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

II. Conditions of a Soul Distinguished from Another

a. Conditions of those in the world

  • Mt 24:3 “At the end of the world”

b. Conditions of those in the church

  • Mt 25:1 “the kingdom of Heaven”

Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Matthew 25:1 — Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

Matthew 25:46 — And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Matthew 24:4 — And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

Matthew 24:8-13 — All these are the beginning of sorrows. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Matthew 24:20 — But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

Matthew 24:32 — Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

Luke 21:30 — When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

1. “I tell you” “in that night”

  • Two in one bed one taken the other left
    • Someone is trying to go to sleep
    • The other one is trying to wake up

Mark 13:35 — Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping,. 37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

2. Condition of those with Samuel/Saul in O.T.

1 Samuel 8:7 — And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

1 Samuel 10:19 — And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

1 Samuel 10:6,7 — And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. 1Sa 10:7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

1 Samuel 10:9 — And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

1 Samuel 10:24 — And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

1 Samuel 10:27 — But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

1 Samuel 11:2 — And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

3. Condition of those with Paul in the N.T.

Philippians 2:21 — For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

Philippians 2:30 — Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

Colossians 3:3 — For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

James 4:14 — Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Matthew 6:25 — Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

1 Timothy 6:18 &mmdash; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
