Jesus is the Source of Life

JESUS IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE

JESUS IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE

John 1:4

Christians are sustained by the life of Christ.  The fullness of what God has for His people comes from experiencing the fullness of the Life of Christ.

I. SINNERS DO NOT KNOW LIFE

A. Dead in their sins

“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;”  (Eph 2:1)

“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)”  (Eph 2:5)

B. Death is a separation

1. Sinners are separated from God

2. Adam expelled because of sin

C. Sinners can not experience true life

1. They are only existing

2. No peace for the wicked

3. No joy

II. THE CHRISTIAN IS SUSTAINED BY THE LIFE OF CHRIST

A. Dead to sin

1. No longer dead in sin

2. Alive unto God

“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  (Rom 6:11)

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”  (1Pe 2:24)

B. Christ liveth in me

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”  (Gal 2:20)

1. Natural needs

2. Strength in the storm

3. The abundant life – John 10:10

III. WE NEED TO EXPERIENCE MORE OF THE LIFE OF CHRIST.

A. The Life of Jesus Made manifest

“Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.  (2Co 4:10)

For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.”   (2Co 4:11)

1. The victorious life

2. Life of power

a. Healing

b. Deliverance

B. Partakers of The Divine Nature

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  (2Pe 1:3)

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”  (2Pe 1:4)

1. The life of Christ in us

2. The fullness of Christ

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (Eph 4:11)

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:  (Eph 4:12)

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:  (Eph 4:13)

C. A victorious life

1. Through Jesus

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”  (Rom 8:37)

2. Victory is a gift

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. - I Corinthians 15:57
