THE POWER OF WORDS

 

 

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!  (Pro 15:23)

 

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.  (Pro 15:26)

 

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.        (Pro 15:1)

 

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.  (Pro 25:11)

 

I. TO ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER

 

A. Negative words do not uplift

 

1. Cause discouragement

2. Grievous words stir up anger

 

B. Positive words uplift

 

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.  (Eph 4:29

1. Lift up the downcast

2. Minister Grace

 

C. A word fitly spoken

 

1. Extreme value to the hearer

“like apples of gold”

2. Has lasting value

“pictures of silver”

II. TO DIFUSE A DIFICULT SITUATION

 

A. A soft answer

1. Not loud and boisterous

2. Turns away wrath

B. Calmness will yield calmness

III. TO OVERCOME THE ENEMY

 

A. The word of their testimony – Rev. 12:11

 

1. Speak the words of faith

2. Speak as God speaks

3. A personal word – “their testimony”

 

B. Do not speak words that give place to the devil

 

1. Negative confession

2. Do not talk defeat

 

C. Take authority over the enemy

 

1. Command the devils to leave

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  (Mar 16:17)

 

2. Command sickness to leave

 

And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.  (Luk 4:38)

And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.  (Luk 4:39)

 

When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.  (Mar 9:25)

 

 

 

 

IV. TO MOVE MOUNTAINS

 

Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.  (Mat 21:21)
