THE IMPORTANCE OF BIBLE DOCTRINE

 

What is Doctrine?

 

Doctrine is Truth!  God’s Word is Truth!  

 

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. – John 17:17

 

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. – I Tim. 4:16

 

I. FALSE DOCTRINE IS DESTRUCTIVE

 

A. False doctrine is that which is contrary to the Truth of The

Word of God.

 

B. Doctrines of men are false.

 

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. – II Tim. 4:3-4

 

1. Man’s doctrine causes men to perish. – Col. 2:20-22

 

2. Jesus warned against the doctrine of the Scribes and Pharisees. – Mt. 16:12

 

C. Doctrines of devils are destroying lives.

 

1. A sign of the last days – I Tim. 4:1-3

 

a. Many shall come in the name of Christ

 

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. – Mat. 24:5  

 

1) Christ means anointed

 

2) There is a false anointing

 

3) Many will be deceived

 

TAKE HEED THAT NO MAN DECEIVE YOU!

 

b. Many false prophets shall rise

 

And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

–  Mt. 24:11  

 

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. – Mt. 24:24  

 

1) Signs and wonders are not always of God

 

2) The devil has a counterfeit

 

c. A great falling away

 

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” (2Th 2:3)

 

2. Leading men to destruction

 

a. Damnable heresies – II Pet. 2:1-3

 

b. Deceived people will go to hell –

Mt. 7:21-23

 

 

 

 

II. BIBLICAL DOCTRINE LEADS UNTO LIFE

 

A. Right doctrine is necessary for salvation.

 

1. Truth will make you free. –John 8:32

B. The Bible must be the

 

1. God’s Word is The Final Authority – II Tim. 3:16-17

 

2. We need to study God’s Word – II Tim. 2:15

 

C. Truth revealed by The Holy Spirit – Jn. 14:26

 

1. The Holy Spirit and The word will always agree

 

2. Scripture will always be in harmony with Itself

                                                                                                      

a. From Genesis to Revelation

 

b. Fitting together like puzzle pieces

 

III. WE MUST REMAIN TEACHABLE

 

A. Pliable in the Potter’s hands

 

1. Yield to God’s Word

 

2.     Dangerous to reject God’s Word – I Sam. 15:23

 

a. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft

 

b. Stubbornness is idolatry

 

B. Rightly understanding The Word of Truth

 

1. Not given to private interpretation

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”  (2Pe 1:20)

   

2. Interpretation should be drawn naturally from the text

 

a. Context is key to correct interpretation

 

b. Many try to fit their ideas into the Bible

 

3. Truth produces life

 

C. Don’t reject what you don’t understand

 

1. Some Truth may seem foreign to you

 

2. Some Truth may be different than how you have been

taught

3. The natural mind can not receive the things of God
