The Inheritance for the Those Who are Kept by the Power of God
THE INHERITANCE FOR THOSE WHO ARE KEPT BY THE POWER OF GOD
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. – I Peter 1:3-5
I. YOU CAN BE KEPT BY THE POWER OF GOD
A. This promised inheritance is not for when you die.
1. There will be no need in heaven to be kept by God’s power.
2. There is a need in this world of sin to be kept by God’s power.
3. The Scripture states the inheritance will be revealed in the last time.
B. God is able to keep you from falling.
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
- Jude 1:24
1. You must desire to be kept by God’s power.
2. This is a work of God.
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
- Philippians 1:6
3. Your strength alone will fail you.
C. This is not a guarantee of eternal security.
1. God has given man a free will.
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. – John 10:28 -29
2. God will not keep you against your will.
a. Eternal life has been given.
b. You can not be plucked out of God’s
keeping power.
c. You can choose not to be kept by God.
3. You must continue to desire to be kept.
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
- Matthew 24:13
II. YOU MUST BE KEPT THROUGH FAITH
A. You need to believe that you can be kept.
1. You must look beyond your own strength.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
– Hebrews 12:2
2. You must learn to lean on the everlasting arms.
3. You must understand the power of sin has been broken.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. – Romans 8:2
B. Faith requires obedience to the Word.
1. You will not be kept if you do not pray.
2. You will not be kept if you do not hide God’s Word in your heart.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. – Psalm 119:11
3. You will not be kept if you do not choose to separate from the world.
C. Faith rises above our failures and mistakes.
1. Don’t give up if you make a mistake.
2. Go back to the altar and continue on.
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: - I John 2:1
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – I John 1:9
3. Don’t dwell on past failures.
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 3:13 -14
