Title: God's Love Revealed

Text: Romans 5:5-10

  1. The Divinity of Christ

Jesus is the son of God! He is coequal with the Father!

Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Even the devils knew who Jesus was:

Mark 1:24—Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

  1. The Love of Christ

I John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

2 Corinthians 5:19,21—2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

  1. The Gift of Christ

Romans 8:32—He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

  1. The Divine Agency Employed in Christ's Death

God did not spare His own son.

We are accepted because Christ is accepted.

Isaiah 53:10,11—Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

The sacrifice of life is the highest expression of love.

Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

  1. The Character of Those for Which Christ Died — Why Christ Died

It was for His enemies. We are sinners against the very person who died for us.

The cross of Christ is the measure of God's love.

Christ died for sinners.

Colossians 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

  1. The Voluntary Nature of Christ's Suferings

John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
