Before Everything Else You Must Know Jesus

Title: Before Everything Else, You Must Know Jesus

DATE: 20111211

Text: I Cor. 2:1-7; 3:1

1Co 2:1 ¶ And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. <testimony : Gospel> 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. <not only the messiah but the CRUCIFIED Messiah> 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 ¶ Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

INTRODUCTION

THEME: The foundation of our faith MUST be Jesus Christ. He must be the apple our eye. It must Be Him and His sacrifice on the cross that attracts our devotion. Our religion must be rooted in a personal relationship with Jesus or it is a religion without salvation. There are a great many Bible truths and spiritual mysteries to be revealed, but all these follow KNOWING JESUS CHRIST and Him crucified. Until we do, everything else is a distraction and like a CHECKBOOK in the hands of a child.

We can be religious about many things. We can be religious about Church attendance, Bible study, Christian talk and even NASCAAR, but if it is not Jesus Christ who is the very start, end and pivot point of your life, you are not saved from sin and there is ONLY one thing to do---know Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.

  1. Jesus The I AM – He is God …the testimony of God

The God of Creation, The Great Deliverer, The Lamb Slain before the Foundation of the World, IT IS HIM. The Baby Jesus was not a new person, but was the incarnation of God. The Tabernacle and all the spiritual types of the OT talk about HIM!

**Joh 1:1** ¶ _In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. …14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth._

**Ex 3:14** _And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you._

**Joh 18:4** _Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground._
  1. Jesus The Christ

anointed, the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered "Messiah" (q.v.), the official title of our Lord, occurring five hundred and fourteen times in the New Testament. It denotes that he was anointed or consecrated to his great redemptive work as Prophet, Priest, and King of his people. He is Jesus the Christ (Ac 17:3; 18:5; Mt 22:42), the Anointed One. He is thus spoken of by Isaiah (Isa 61:1), and by Daniel (Da 9:24-26), who styles him "Messiah the Prince."

  1. Jesus The Personal Savior

Joh 3:1 ¶ There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Lu 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  • Jesus Means “Jehovah is Savior” and He must become MY Savior.
  • HE alone can save. Mr 2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
  • Who Am I Following?
  1. Jesus The Lord
  2. He is Lord

Joh 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

The only right response to God is SURRENDER.

The Lord Will Never Make a Truce With Sin

After a splendid victory at sea, Lord Nelson confronted the French admiral who was surrendering. The admiral, dressed in all of his regalia, approached Nelson to surrender. With his sword swinging by his side, the admiral put out his hand to the British commander. Lord Nelson stepped back and said, “Your sword first.” There are a lot of people who think they can walk up and glad hand the Lord Jesus Christ. He says, “Your sword first.” Surrender first! Jesus is not an appeaser, and He will never make a truce with sin. Never! We have to abdicate the throne. We have to surrender. (Adrian Rodgers).

Mt 7:21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Jesus does not keep us in bondage but liberates us. **<span style="text-decoration:underline;">True liberty is to walk with Jesus!</span>** (1838 William Knibbs, Island of Jamaica, Emancipation Proclamation)
  1. He Alone is Lord
  • 942 verses in the NT. We find the name Jesus.** **There are 242,918 people in the U.S. with the first name Jesus. Statistically the 276th most popular first name.
  • Jesus is the Greek Form of Joshua (Exodus 17:9)
  • A Jewish Christian surnamed Justus (Col. 4:11)
  • Only One Jesus Christ and Him Crucified!

For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. (ALL POWER)

Hallelujah CHORUS by Mandel

Re 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
