The Human Condition & Faith

TITLE: The Human Condition & Faith

TEXT: Hebrews 11:21—By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

What should the Believer’s Disposition be toward the human condition?

Our manner of life should not be domination by the human condition but by faith.

INTRODUCTION

  • Are we merely as animals and plants, “Born and Died.” (Rock Song “Born to Die”)?
  • No man is invincible.
    • Samson Not invincible
    • Paul the Apostle Didn’t get along with everybody
  1. THE HUMAN CONDITION
  • What is the human condition?

All of humanity regardless of race, gender, environment is SUBJECT to certain conditions. These conditions are called “The human condition.”

  1. SIN  PRONE to SIN, Selfsih

Ps 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Ge 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (v. 8 “Noah found grace”)
  1. SICKNESS
  • FRAILTY, OLD AGE, SICKNESS, DEATH

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

2Ki 13:14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.2Ki 13:20 ¶ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

  1. NEEDS
  • God, Air, Water, Food, Shelter SATISFACTION SOUGHT AFTER
  • Companionship, It is not good that man should be alone
  • Man is insufficient in himself, a DEPENDENT

Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

  1. FAITH

We are captives as long as our limits/liberty does not exceed the human condtion.

  2. Faith Reaches Beyond the Human Condition

A CRY FOR DELIVERANCE.

Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

There is only one profitable way to hide our weakness:

1Sa 25:29 Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.

Col 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

  1. Faith is not influenced by the Human Condition

CONSUMED BY THE DECREE OF GOD.

  • Paul Php 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

  • Sin is Near
  1. Faith is Guided by the Will of God.

…worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

A CRUTCH???

  • God’s Will, God’s Call, God’s Word -- Can any good come out of Nazereth?

    I was born this way

    It is in my genes

    Everybody does it

    I can’t help but sin

It is the way of all living

Faith is not consumed with what has been but what God desires to be.
