INTRODUCTION: How The Church Grew.

  • Awkward, difficult to discus spiritual things? God make this conversation "common"! The Common Breaking of an Uncommon Bread

Acts 2:41 — Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 4:4 — Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

John 3:11 — Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

  1. Acts 2:41 -- Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:

  2. JOHN - Re 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

  3. THE LORD's TABLE

Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

  1. "LOVE FEAST"

Jude 1:12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

2. They Took Time to Reflect

"Continue in Doctrine and fellowship in Breaking of Bread and Prayers."

  • Thoughtful = It's alright to wait but don't wait too long (CONCERN)
  • Wait

Psalm 27:14 — Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psalm 1:2 — But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Ps 119:148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

Luke 21:14 — Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

1Ti 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all

It is important that we are thoughtful, so that we may be effected by the truth. (Continued in the Apostles doctrine.)

Revelation 2:14,15 — But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. 15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

  • Why are we doing what we are doing?
  • What does this mean?

3. They Took Time to Respond

"Continue in Doctrine and fellowship in Breaking of Bread and Prayers."

  • What kinds of things do we respond to?

    • Exceptional, unique, exciting, timely/fitting, funny/entertaining, surprising/unexpected, expected
    • What about the "ordinary"? God works in ordinary ways.
  • "See something, Say something."

  • Things as a Family (Church fellowship is a SHARED LIFE.)

  • In the Habit of Sharing (sharing lunch)

  • Right Hand of Fellowship

Galatians 2:9 — And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

This fellowshipping in the BREAD was a joyous and rewarding activity.

Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

This is how the Gospel spread [The Samaritan woman]:

Joh 4:29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
