The Sins of My Youth

Psalm 25:1 — [A Psalm of David.] Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. 3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. 4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.

I. Introduction

  • Psalm 25 is the first of 7 accrostic psalms where each new line begins with a letter of the Hebrew Alphabet.

  • The general tone of this Psalm is that of prayer for help from enemies.

  • The psalm may in the larger sense be prophetic of those carried away to Babylonion captivity, but It is first most written, PERSONALLY.

  • Not all trouble is God's judgment for my sin. Conviction should be treated as conversation with God in your heart and with the Bible.

Joh 9:1 ¶ And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

  • Desring DELIVERANCE is human, but the distress is what has EXTRACTED a sense of sin, humble confession, supplication for pardon, preservation from sin, and divine guidance.

  • What would be characteristic of 'the sins of my youth'? Not necessairly on in youth, but these things BEGIN in our youth.

TALK ABOUT OF SIN IN THE LIGHT OF THE GRACE OF GOD.

3. CURIOSITY: Committed without understanding how I was led into it (tempted).

James 1:14 — But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

  • TEMPTATION: There is SOMETHING in you and it is not all good.
  • The devil makes his appeal to you FLESH, CARNAL, BASE, VISE.
  • CURIOSITY, What is being kept from me?

2 Ti 2:26 — And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

  • TOOK MY SHIRT OFF PLAYING BASKETBALLL.

III. Conclusion

1 John 2:1 — My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin,** we have an advocate** with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

  • Jesus is righteous, when I am not.

  • By the grace of God, we can RECOVER ALL. Mix GREAT REPENTANCE with GREAT FAITH God ward. HE CAN. He is ABLE.

Jude 1:24 — Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
