The Salvation of the Lord

Lamenations 3:26 — It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

  • Salvation: something saved; "The Lord's Salvation"

Salvation Promised (Can we EXPECT to be Saved?)

  • Because the Scriptures promise it:

Romans 10:9 — That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  • Because Many Will See in the End that it is and all along was true that SALVATION IS OF THE LORD.

Revelation 19:1 — And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: [preceding the announcement of the marriage of the lamb. IN THE END, those in heaven will ASCRIBE UNTO HIM SALVATION.]

Genesis 3:15 — And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. [overwhelm]

Isaiah 7:14 — Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. [God with us.]

Isa 49:8 Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

  • IT IS WHO HE IS: He revealed his promises in part in names (Jehovah 5,521), many "compound names":
Raphi - The Lord My Provider - Genesis 22
Rapha - The Lord Who Heals- Exodus 15:22-26
The Lord My Banner - Our **Claim** to Victory (Israel runaway slaves, centuries since it was home, WHO GOD IS and WHO WE ARE) - The Battle's Not Mine said little David Ex 17:15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
  • A Judgment, (Winning and Losing Sides)

2 Samuel 22:42 — They [David's enemies] looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

Psalm 118:15 — The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

Hoping for Salvation

1. Waiting, Expecting, Tarrying, Hoping

  • Hope deffered maketh the heart sick. Anxiously waiting is no fun. (Tornado in ohio, tent story)

Genesis 49:18 — I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD. [Jacob blessing Dan]

Psalms 119:166 ¶ LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. [hope: expect, tarry, wait]

Psalm 25:5 — Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

2. result of the waiting:

Exodus 15:2 — Ex 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him. [from the song of moses]

  • Seeing It (Not Idleness)

Ex 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

  • The Strange Warefare of a Faith-Filled People

The Moabites, Ammonites, and Edomites, invade Judah, 1, 2. Jehoshaphat proclaims a fast, and gathers the people together to seek the Lord, 3, 4. Great and small, male and female, seek the Lord, 13. Jahaziel predicts the downfall of their enemies, 14-17.

2Ch 20:14-17 — Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation; 15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. 16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. 17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

The king, the Levites, and the people take courage; praise and magnify God; and go forth to meet their enemies,

2 Ch 20:20 ¶ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

18-21. The enemies are confounded, and destroy each other, 22-24. The men of Judah take the spoil, praise the Lord, and return with joy to Jerusalem, 25-28.

  • The Valley of Blessing

2Ch 20:26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

  • It IS HIM! (We wait not just for an ACT but for the "Person", for the GOD of our salvation! What are we waiting to see?)

Isa 62:11 Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

REFUGE: (PRESERVED FROM) The God of the Rock of My Salvation

Psalm 71:3 — Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.

Psalms 95:1 ¶ O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. [refuge]

  • David spake unto the LORD the words of this song after He had delivered him out of the hand of Saul (2 Samuel 22:1-51):

  • The LORD [Jehovah] is my rock, and my fortress and my deliverer. [craggy rock, stronghold, fortress]

2 Samuel 22:3 The God [Elohim] of my rock [a refuge]; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

2 Samuel 22:32 — For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

2 Samuel 22:47 — The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

2Sa 22:51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

  • HE IS OUR "RESORT" [he action of turning to and adopting a strategy or course of action, especially a disagreeable or undesirable one, so as to resolve a difficult situation:]

DOTTIE RAMBO: "I Go to the Rock" Where do I go when there's nobody else to turn to? Who do I turn to when nobody wants to listen? Who do I lean on when there's no foundation stable? I go to the Rock, I know He's able, I go to the Rock

DELIVERANCE (OUT OF)

2 Samuel 22:4 — I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

2Sa 22:48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me, 49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

Salvation is of the Lord

Ps 37:39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

Psalm 121:1 — I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. [or, Shall I lift...?]

Psalm 121:2 — My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

Jeremiah 3:23 — Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

Psalm 5:3 — My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

Psalms 68:20 He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death.

  • TO GOD ALONE BE THE GLORY: These be the gods the brought you up, False gods

Deuteronomy 9:29 — Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.

  • versus

Exodus 32:4 — And he [Aaron] received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

  • Remember Your Heritage [possession, inheritance: inferred is HOW we came by it]

  • Ultimately, the Lord is our Heritage (we are his people, sheep of his pasture, born of God, AND HE IS OURS and to God be the GLORY), but also God has in his grace given us an earthly heritage.

Isa 51:1 ¶ Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek [worship, beseech] the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. 2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him. 3 For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

- GOD's PROVIDENCE, we had nothing to do with our birth!
- once "a rock & a hole in ground" BUT GOD! "Father of Many" and "a queen" but having no children.
  • Mighty Men and their Mighty God (Salvation is of the Lord)

1 Ch 11:14 — And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance. {set...: or, stood} {deliverance: or, salvation }

1Ch 11:10 ¶ These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel. 11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time. 12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties. 13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines. 14 And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD saved them by a great deliverance.
