Prevailing Peace

TITLE: God’s Prevailing Peace TEXT: John 14:25-27 DATE: 20120729

Joh 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

4 THINGS: The Promise, Provider, Power, & Privilege of Prevailing Peace

INTRODUCTION

A. STATISTICS:

  • Since 3,600 BC, the world has known only about 300 years of peace. That means only eight percent of history has enjoyed peace.
  • More than 8,000 treaties of peace, meant to last forever, were broken. They remained in force an average of only two years.
  • WAR DEFIES LOGIC In 1960, a U.S. military research team studied ways of avoiding another major war. During its research, the team fed a computer all the data on World War I. The computer responded with the assertion that World War I was an impossibility, that it never really happened! Jas 4:1 ¶_ From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?_
  • Tormented Minds, Restless, Troubled, Noisome

Phil. 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

B. **DEFINITION: **

Hebrew = SHALOM; greet and bid farewell; complete peace. It is a feeling of contentment, completeness, wholeness, well being and harmony. TO BE COMPLETE, PERFECT, OR FULL.

DICTIONARY: #12 Obsolete to be quiet.

I. The Promise of Prevailing Peace

Peace I leave with you, ...

Christ is going away. This is a time of great stress, danger, fear, anxiety for the Disciples. There is much UNKNOWN. ==>Peace in the midst of trouble, peace in the midst of the storms....

The disciples are threatened with a great VOID, how can they be COMPLETE?

Safety consists not in the absence of danger but in the presence of God.

II. The Provider of Prevailing Peace =

...my peace I give unto you:...

A. “MY” → This peace is HIS to give! God has a monopoly on peace!

Isaiah 9:6 “_For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peac_e.”

B. “GIVE” → This peace is a gift of grace!

III. The Power of Prevailing Peace = ...not as the world giveth, give I unto you....

A. Herein lies a GREAT contrast!

B. False, Lies, Abuse = WORLD

**ILL: ⇒ “**Over 8,000 Peace treaties have been made and broken.””

C. God gives with the best intent and motive. HE WILL NOT LEAVE US HANGING.

Ro 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

IV. The Privilege of Prevailing Peace ...Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. <==A Solemn Charge

A. Receive It - GOD’S GIFT, but we must be in a position to RECEIVE IT!

  1. Confess and Repent of all sins known and hidden Ps 38:3 <FORGIVENESS> Mt 6:15

  2. **Praise the Lord **(Praise Makes Perfect) Ps 59:16

B. Keep It - LET NOT...(allowance)

⇒ The Quieting of my own spirit is an act of faith.
  1. Take Comfort in God’s Promises <I Am NOT ALONE> Ps 86:7; 2Co 1:20; 2Pe 1:4

  2. **Resist the Devil ** Jas 4:7 ….Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

C. Share it - Blessed are the peace makers....

(Num 6 =Nazarite) (3times=lord) Nu 6:24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: 25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: 26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Nu 6:27 And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

And because the benediction, though pronounced by the lips of a fellow man, derived its virtue, not from the priest but from God, the encouraging assurance was added, "I the Lord will bless them."

CONCLUSION:

Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
